DEFINITION:Under general supervision of the Recreation Manager assist in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs, events, and activities to meet the needs of the community, including youth enrichment programs, sports programs, facility maintenance, teen and adult programs, senior programs. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES(Essential job functions that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)
  • Serve as a representative of the City of Mesquite, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.
  • Assist in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating safe and appropriate recreation programs, events, and activities to meet the needs of the community.
  • Assist in ensuring activities are in compliance with all laws, policies, contracts, regulations, and goals.
  • Assist in recruiting coaches, volunteers, contract instructors and other part-time staff.
  • Assist in ensuring staff adhere to policies for efficient and safe operations; Assists in interviewing part-time applicants and staff trainings.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities to identify safety, security, and maintenance issues; submit work orders as required; provide customer service to patrons and resolve issues as required.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program and financial records.
  • Assist in program registration, recreation center memberships and other financial transactions.
  • Coordinate with and assist Parks staff to ensure field maintenance.
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and coordinating multiple summer programs.
  • Assist in new program development and implementation, report and track data for all programs and events.
  • Assist in planning and organizing special events; acts as a liaison to event contractors; Assists in setting up events, purchasing materials, and allocation of staff and resources.
  • Promote good relationships with neighborhood and community groups and other agencies; report and resolves complaints and special requests.
  • Promote the Athletics and Leisure Services Department through social media platforms. (Facebook, Instagram etc...)
  • Serve as the link between essential department information and the public through mass communication pertaining to memberships, fees, events, programs, special announcements, and hours of operation.
  • Maintain the recreational equipment with regular cleanings and inspections for patron safety and satisfaction.
  • Keep records of department inventory, distribution, and recreational/event rental agreements.
  • Assist in facility maintenance and custodial responsibilities throughout the department.

    • Rules, regulations, policies, and operating safety procedures of the Athletics and Leisure Services Department.
    • Supervising and controlling recreation activities, operations, and participants.
    • Programs and equipment; purpose, use and benefits of municipal recreational activities.
    • City policies and procedures; Federal, State and City safety rules and regulations.
    • Promoting and enforcing safe work practices; safely operating and maintaining tools and specialized equipment.
    • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
    • Principles and practices promoting a positive recreation environment and good personal behavior.
    • Basic computer applications involving word processing, data entry and standard report generation.

    EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & TRAINING:Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Associate's degree from an accredited college/university in Recreation or related field preferred.Experience:Responsible experience in recreation, leisure related activities, facility maintenance preferred. License or Certificate: Must possess at the time of employment and continuously throughout employment a valid Nevada or border state driver's license, as defined by NRS 483. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, the following certifications within six (6) months hire:
    • American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer
    • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid (within 6 months of accepting the job).

Supplemental Information WORKING CONDITIONSWork is performed under the following conditions: Physical Requirements:Work is performed indoors and outdoors revolving around recreational facilities. Subject to high levels of public contact and frequent interruptions. Duties require sufficient mobility to use standard office equipment; standing and/or waking for prolonged periods of time; frequent bending, twisting, reaching, stooping and climbing; vision to read and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Flexibility of work hours; must be available to attend evening, weekend meetings and programs and to respond to emergency situations.
