Duties

MAJOR DUTIES:

The purpose of this position is to plan, manage, and administer a comprehensive year-round health and fitness program, and the facilities used in conducting the activities that comprise the program at a Marine Corps Installation. The program serves a population of active duty; reserve, and retired military personnel, their family members, civilians. and other authorized customers. The incumbent will plan, develop, organize, manage, and supervise diverse and comprehensive health and physical fitness programs, which include group exercise classes, self-directed fitness programs, incentive programs, special events, and instructional programs.

The fitness program is a comprehensive program which effectively encompasses key fitness elements. The fitness program includes but is not limited to the following: cardiovascular conditioning; functional fitness {High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) and family fitness}; strength training; group exercise; a personal training program; programs for special populations; special events; and support for the Body Composition Program (BCP); Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and Marine Combat Fitness Test (CFT).

Serves as the installation Liaison with agencies internal and external to the Marine Corps to enhance the health promotion program; administer the daily operation of the Installation's Health Promotion Program; and develop, coordinate and integrate Health Promotion Programs with Marine and Family Services, the Navy Health Clinic, Safety Office, Employee Assistance Program Coordinator, and other base wellness activities as deemed appropriate to the activity. Plans and conducts comprehensive programs on the health and physical well-being of beneficiaries to include the following elements: physical activity, injury prevention, nutrition, obesity, substance abuse, mental health, responsible sexual behavior and disease management. Actively engages in and has oversight of the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of all core health promotions programs through awareness briefs. education classes, media awareness campaigns, seminars. workshops, health screenings. health fairs and incentive challenges and events.

Contributes to readiness and improving productivity through programs that promote fitness. spo11s. esprit de corps, and quality of life for authorized customers. Conducts various levels of group exercise classes. Coordinates the use of fitness facilities Lo accommodate the comprehensive Semper Fit Program, and ensures weekly/daily inspections are conducted on fitness equipment, and facilities with discrepancies documented and forwarded to the appropriate office for correction. Drives a government vehicle to travel to various sites on the installation to oversee the lifestyle habits of participating beneficiaries. May transport equipment and audio-visual aids.

Provides enhanced health and fitness programs. Ensures required annual training is accomplished at the unit level. and coordinates; with unit Commanders on Installation outreach program, to include health risk assessments, health screenings, seminars, classes, workshops, and annual training requirements.

Plans, coordinates and conducts recurring and non-recurring education and awareness activities. And special events. Establishes comprehensive annual plan to include program goals and objectives that are based on customer feedback. Coordinates with marketing staff to plan and develop promotional advertising. commercial sponsorship and publicity strategies. Coordinates and implements joint programs with other Semper Fit and MCCS activit1ies.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree from and accredited college or university in one of the following areas: health promotions. health education. public health. Exercise Physiology. Exercise Science, Fitness Management, or a related field AND four years of experience in fitness or a health field with health education & prevention as a primary focus. A certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) is required. Experience in planning, managing, and administering a comprehensive year-round health and fitness program, and the facilities used in conducting the activities at a military installation serving a population of active duty, reservists, retired military personnel, their family members, civilians, and other authorized customers. Skill to plan, develop, organize, manage, and supervise diverse and comprehensive health and physical fitness programs, that include group exercise classes, self-directed fitness programs, incentive programs, special events, and instructional programs.

Competency in public speaking, professional writing for public awareness, computer literacy and metrics reporting and/or program evaluation.

Physical dexterity, and ability to conduct exercise classes, stand for long periods of time, and lift and carry objects up to 451bs independently and objects over 451hs with assistance.

A valid driver's license is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Tactical Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA)

Sports Performance Coach Level I - USA Weightlifting (USA W)

Certified Inclusive Fitness Specialist (ACSM)

Lifestyle and Weight Management (ACE)

Possess Health Promotion Director certificate from and accredited institution

Certifications in health promotion and fitness. basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator, and First Aid that are kept current throughout employment.
