Annually, over 1,500 volunteers invest over 45,000 hours of time to support Parks & Recreation. The position recruits, coordinates, supervises, and tracks volunteers. Volunteers support a variety of functions including specials events, environmental, cultural and recreation programs which include some nights and weekends to accomplish the goals of the position.Under administrative direction, the Recreation Specialist coordinates, oversees and supervises the planning and logistics of special event management, administration, volunteer recruitment and scheduling for recreation department events, park maintenance, programs and management of co-sponsor organizations.We are also currently recruiting for our Special Events Recreation Specialist position.Job posting updated 12/23/2024. Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manages, coordinates, administers, and oversees event planning and implementation for the various areas of the recreation department including facilities and public spaces; establishes strong relationships with various vendors, manages signage, secures permitting, and handles logistics for city events; develops social media, website designs, and other graphic designs for events, supervises and coordinates staff during events.
  • Manages and builds relationships with community and community partners; ensures compliance with agreements, schedules and serves as a liaison between community partnerships and the city; provides conflict resolution, encourages community engagement, and provides management to ensure success.
  • Gathers, reviews, and verifies daily financials for recreation facilities and programs; ensures deposit numbers match tracking software; verifies tax exempt transactions, reviews purchases and other accounting; monitors the budget and ensures all reimbursements are submitted and monitored.
  • Performs extensive record keeping duties; ensures compliance across the recreation facilities, beach, special events, and other recreation programs; submits and follows up on work orders and repair requests; assists in various payroll processing tasks and ensures appropriate tracking, reporting, and document filing.
  • Plans, develops, and facilitates various programs and projects involving special events, volunteers, athletics, and administration.
  • Delegates, assigns, and direct employees and volunteers at special events and volunteer projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsLicenses or Certifications: A valid State driver's license is required. Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Business Management PLUS two (2) years of Hospitality and Events volunteer or athletic administration including accounting, public speaking, and supervision; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
