Location: Springfield,MA, USA
Position Purpose/Summary
Responsible for the creation, planning and implementing of all City-organized recreation events.Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Recreation. Supervision may be exercised over small groups of clerical staff doing specialized work, or over a large group performing routine duties.
Essential Functions
* Oversees the creation of program planning.Plans and implements all aspects of recreation program including budgeting, equipment purchasing, and grant writing.
* Plans and creates special recreation events.
* Conducts research and grant writing.Ensures collection of funds necessary to implement programs not included in the budget.
* Supports various community collaborations as requested.
* Performs general office duties such as answering phones, working with the public, etc.
* Hires and trains necessary workforce.
* Acts as a public relations coordinator.Coordinates press releases, brochure development and design, advertisements, web page content and media relations.
* Scheduling of ballfields and issuing permits.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Ability to present ideas and policies in a clear, concise, and well prepared manner.
* Ability to manage large-scale events and run programs.
* Knowledge of grant writing.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and MUNIS operating system.
* Ability to maintain records and prepare periodic reports.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
* Requires making decisions with considerable independent judgment in regards to departmental policies and operations.
Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in a related field.
* Five years of experience in organizing and coordinating municipal programs and activities.
