A day in the life of a Recreational Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Exhibit knowledge and understanding of resident's diagnosis and special needs.
  • Identify and re-integrate residents' leisure interests through implementation of activity programs under the supervision of the Director or Therapist.
  • Recognize needs not directly related to Recreation Therapy and refer to the appropriate team member.
  • Completes assigned documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned by Director/Designee.
  • Prepares effective oral and written communication as directed.
  • Informs supervisor and/or appropriate staff of pertinent issues/concerns.
  • Initiates communication of constructive ideas and suggestions.
  • Conducts group and 1:1 programming effectively and with good time management.
  • Able to drive van and follows transportation procedures.
  • Responsible for assisting during an out trip and special events.
  • Follows safety guidelines during the provision of services.
  • Other Duties as assigned: Handles special projects and rush assignments as needed, in a timely manner.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with other staff.
  • Effective communication with other staff, medical personnel, residents and their family/significant others, visitors and outside agencies and referral services.
  • Basic computer skills, including e-mail.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Long-term care facility experience
  • Prior work experience with geriatric and disabled populations.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish)
