Why does the job exist?The purpose of the Recreational Therapist position at the CBS Division of NMBHI is to provide Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) services to clients who meet medical necessity for this service per state standards. How does it get done?Incumbent will provide clients with daily classes/activities with psychosocial rehabilitation interventions designed to address the functional limitations, deficits, and behavioral excesses of participants through capitalizing on personal strengths, developing coping strategies and skills to help them function as independently as possible. Incumbent will efficiently and accurately complete all required documentation to include but not limited to progress notes, initial assessment, initial treatment plan and treatment plan reviews are required. Who are the customers?Qualified adults with serious mental illness (SMI) who elect to attend the outpatient Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (PSR) at Community Based Services. Ideal CandidateIdeal candidate will have:Experience working as part of a treatment teamExperience working with coordinating programsExperience working with serious mental illness (SMI), and/or chronic substance dependence or a co-occurring diagnosis. Minimum QualificationHigh School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. CRIMINAL RECORDS BACKGROUND CHECK-Must successfully complete post offer pre-employment criminal records background check. Employment is conditional pending the results of criminal records background checks. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA). Working ConditionsThis position will perform in an outpatient hospital and office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Exposure to mentally and behaviorally challenged clients who may exhibit unpredictable and potentially violent behavior.
