Responsibilities
Position Purpose: Designs and implements unit-based recreational experiences which address the patient's culture, social and physical needs. Carries out planned recreational therapy treatment.

Position Requirements and Qualifications
Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and programs as necessary and ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information. Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job. Knowledge of principles of psychology and child growth and development are useful. Limit setting, responding to children and adolescents in a caring, mature manner while maintaining professional boundaries necessary.
Education: Bachelor's degree in related field
Licensure/Certification: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist; Maintain current Handle with Care (bi-annually), CPR (BLS Provider annually) First Aid Certifications. In order to operate The Hughes Center's Vehicles a current Virginia driver's license with a good driving record (minimum of +1 points) is required.
Experience: Two years of related experience with children, adolescents and young adult population or undergraduate degree in behavioral science.
Physical
Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
80% - 90% of the time, the incumbent is standing, walking, kneeling
or reaching while working with residents
Requires full range of body motion including handling and physical
Restraint of residents
Ability to perform CPR and First Aid
Days and hours may vary, some weekends may be required
