As a Recreational Therapist, you will plan and direct medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organize activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Conduct programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts.
- Provides therapeutic services to patients as ordered by a physician, initiates referrals when appropriate; all work performed in accordance with CMS guidelines, their State Practice Act, and DTS policies and procedures.
- Conduct screenings of patients at regular intervals to determine need for intervention/treatment.
- Evaluates patients to obtain data necessary for treatment planning and implementation. Conducts specialized evaluations as indicated; develops and implements individualized resident treatment plans to include short and long-term goals and methods to achieve identified goals.
- Interprets and communicates evaluation findings and coordinates treatment plan with patient, family, and other team members.
- Implements and conducts treatment as outlined in treatment plan.
- Monitors patients response to intervention and modifies treatment as indicated to attain goals in accordance with physicians orders.
- Participates in discharge planning.
- Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the patient in his or her own environment.
- Documents results of patients assessment, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services.
- Reviews the quality and appropriateness of the total services delivered and of individual Recreational Therapy programs for effectiveness and efficiency, using predetermined criteria.
- Participates in patient, family, and team member education.
- Attends in-service meetings and center meetings as required.
- Provides in-service education to the members of the patients care team and education to the community.
- Adheres to Recreational Therapy Department procedures regarding documentation of Recreational Therapy services.
- Consistently demonstrates sound judgment in the evaluation, planning, implementation and follow-up of patient therapy programs.
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education, professional development, and current professional licensure.
- Records indirect and billable treatment times according to Recreational Therapy Department procedures.
- Reports to work on time and adheres to schedule maintaining acceptable patient ratios and work efficiency during assigned shift.
- Complies with all Infection Control, Universal Precautions and OSHA standards for the health care professional; maintains a safe and clean work area and adheres to center/company safety standards.
- Maintains positive relationship and rapport with all center team members, patients, patients, and family members.
- Assists with and participates in Quality Assurance Programs as required.
- Adheres to established confidentiality standards
- Projects a positive and professional image at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Bachelor Degree, or higher
- Current state licensure in good standing
