The incumbent must conduct all health-related services in strict confidence and on a need-to-know basis with all clinic staff and outside health care providers. Protocols for adherence will be in accordance with HIPAA regulation requirements. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (will include, but not be limited to)The Referral Clerk is primarily responsible for managing and completing all patient referrals in a timely and organized manner. This includes maintaining a daily log of referrals and accurately inputting information into the EHR system. The clerk provides regular updates to the RN and Clinic Manager regarding referral statuses while ensuring appropriate follow-up, such as rescheduling appointments and notifying providers. Additionally, the Referral Clerk communicates with patients, providing them with all necessary referral information and instructions to support seamless coordination of care.To facilitate the referral process, the Referral Clerk maintains ongoing knowledge of referral resources, required documentation, and key contacts. Responsibilities include obtaining documentation to prepare for service authorizations, submitting information to agencies or companies for pre-authorization payment approvals, and gathering TAR (Treatment Authorization Request) details to secure payment for services. The role involves close collaboration with the medical department to address specialty referrals, costs for services, and other healthcare specialty resources within the medical community.The Referral Clerk must adhere to HIPAA confidentiality requirements in all written and verbal communications involving patient referrals. Consistent attendance and professional interaction with staff are essential to the role, contributing to a positive and efficient work environment. The clerk should demonstrate an understanding of the Health Center's mission, showing enthusiasm for its success while meeting corporate data collection needs and other responsibilities as assigned.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Qualifications:Education and Experience:Pattern I: High School Diploma with one (1) to three (3) years of experience.OrPattern II: High School Diploma with one (1) to three (3) years of experience in related field. Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with Native American population in a healthcare setting 2+ years preferred.Knowledge of current HER and basic medical knowledge preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time; climbing stairs, step-stools, etc.; stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, and reaching; pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity for operation of computer and phones; hearing, talking, and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers; subject to outside environmental conditions of heat and cold; and walking on uneven ground.
