Position Summary:
The Regional Director will ensure the achievement of the Fairfield Regions behavioral health core strategies and operating results by providing collaborative leadership among St. Vincents Medical Center and Behavioral Health Network leaders and across the Hartford HealthCare system. The Regional Director, working in collaboration with the regional Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, serves as the dyad leader for the service line being responsible for strategy, program development and overall provision of all behavioral health services provided in the Fairfield region which include inpatient care, psychiatric emergency services, ambulatory services, and the community support services division.
Key Accountabilities:
- Collaborates with the regional Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health to serve as the dyad leaders for the behavioral health service line. Supports Chair in operational and business functions to achieve regional goals for medical staff and medical education initiatives
- Participates in strategic planning and program development. Links the function to other organization functions by participating in work groups and teams, by encouraging staff to participate in cross-organization activities, and by integrating with other functions to contribute to the achievement of system wide results
- Identifies, develops, plans, and actualizes opportunities for program growth and innovation for behavioral health across the region
- Prepares and adheres to departmental budgets and responds to all applicable administrative timeframes. Identifies and implements appropriate cost containment measures
- Develops regional goals to support Fairfield Regions behavioral health objectives and priorities. Consults with the Fairfield Region VP of Operations, VP of Patient Care Services and others to coordinate behavioral health activities with other hospital initiatives
- Demonstrates judgment by contributing to an environment that facilitates development of clinical expertise of staff by role modeling, teaching, coaching and mentoring. Uses knowledge and expertise to identify potential problems and/or resources for patients and their families
- Demonstrates advocacy and moral agency by advocating on behalf of the department to represent the concerns of patients, families and staff. Works in collaboration with multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams to balance technology with values that emphasize quality of life, consumer choice, risk-benefit decisions, access and integrity of life
- Demonstrates systems thinking by recognizing, responding and following up on all issues, concerns and suggestions on behalf of the patient population and staff. Provides timely follow-up and provides leadership in system redesign to promote a culture of safety
Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Health Administration, Nursing or similar area required
- Ten plus years of experience working with a behavioral health population
- Five plus years in a leadership position in a behavioral health setting
- Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication skills who relates well with all levels of the organization
- A creative, forward-thinking leader with the proven ability to engage, coach and mentor direct reports, colleagues and other key stakeholders
- The ability to work with diverse groups of providers, clinicians, nursing staff and all disciplines and appreciate their contributions to the strategic direction of the healthcare system
- Intellectually facile, will have the ability to be conceptually creative, grasp large amounts of information quickly, and articulate conclusions in a clear manner
- A demonstrated track record designing strategies and delivering solutions in areas including, but not limited to, patient experience, patient safety, employee engagement and workflow redesign
- Highly effective analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong communications skills required - both written and verbal
