ABOUT THIS POSITION:
We are hiring for several Deputy I open positions in our New Estates Department. These positions will train to perform clerical and administrative duties by interviewing and assisting the public and attorneys with estate administration. The position(s) requires a quick learner to assess documents and address public inquiries received by telephone, by mail, and in person to determine and complete the specific service required.
The selection(s) must interpret and apply laws, rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines established without rendering legal advice. The Deputy I position requires excellent communication skills, and a strong focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and records management adherence.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of progressively responsible clerical, administrative, and/or supervisory experience.
Note: Possession of an associate degree or 60 credit hours in a related field may be substituted for the required experience at the rate of 30 credits for one year of experience.
REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates with bilingual skills are preferred, but this skill is not required for all Deputy open positions.
Records management, customer service, and receptionist work experience are required.
The ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, legal authority, policies, and procedures is required.
The ability to conduct independent research and analysis using resources and appropriate judgment are required.
Strong and effective oral and written communication skills are required.
Proficient computer literacy skills with MS Office Suite, logs/databases, and forms/documents are required.
Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and with attention to detail under time constraints is required.
The ability to work with sensitive persons who are distressed is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. This position is an “at-will” political special appointment and serves at the pleasure of the Register of Wills for Prince George's County.
2. Telecommuting or remote work is not available for this position.
3. Working hours are determined by the Supervisor and aligned with operational hours open to the public.
