Job Type Part-timeDescriptionPosition OverviewThe Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT) reports to the Program Director. The Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT) does not supervise.The Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT) at Forward Family Services is responsible for facilitating group sessions for both teens and adults in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The RADT plays a critical role in supporting clients through their recovery journey by implementing treatment plans, providing educational and therapeutic support, and maintaining a safe and structured environment. The RADT collaborates with clinical staff to ensure that each client receives individualized care that meets their recovery needs.Duties
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions focused on substance use education, relapse prevention, coping skills, and emotional regulation.
  • Lead group discussions on topics such as addiction, mental health, life skills, and recovery tools.
  • Conduct intake assessments and gather client information as part of the treatment planning process.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff (therapists, counselors, etc.) to create and implement treatment plans for each client.
  • Provide one-on-one check-ins with clients to assess progress and address any immediate concerns.
  • Assist clients in setting personal recovery goals and guide them through the process of meeting these goals.
  • Document client progress and group participation in Electronic Health Records (EHR) accurately and promptly.
  • Support clients in crisis management, referring them to clinical staff for intervention when necessary.
  • Maintain a structured, therapeutic, and safe environment for clients during group sessions and individual interactions.
  • Coordinate with external providers and community resources for client referrals and additional support services.
  • Conduct drug and alcohol screenings as needed and ensure adherence to program policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings and provide input on treatment adjustments based on client progress and needs.
  • Assist in planning therapeutic and recreational activities for the IOP program.
  • Adhere to ethical and regulatory standards, including those set by CCAPP, APA, and DHCS.
Competencies and Abilities
  • Excellent group facilitation skills, particularly in guiding teens and adults through substance use topics and recovery strategies.
  • Strong understanding of addiction and its effects on mental health, family systems, and social functioning.
  • Ability to manage group dynamics and maintain a positive, therapeutic environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to engage clients and encourage active participation in group sessions.
  • Ability to assess client needs, report findings to clinical staff, and provide feedback on treatment plan progress.
  • Proficiency in maintaining detailed and compliant client records in Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and the ability to identify when higher levels of care are necessary.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to the unique needs of diverse client populations.
RequirementsMinimum one-year experience working with dual diagnosis, substance abuse, chemical dependency, psychiatric, detox and/or medical surgical fields.
  • Must be registered, licensed, or certified.
  • Two years clean and sober if in recovery
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification on file
  • Current TB skin test and health screen report
  • Must be registered as a RADT with CCAPP (California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals).
  • Experience facilitating group therapy or educational sessions in a substance abuse treatment or mental health setting.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Knowledge of addiction recovery principles and the ability to apply them in a group setting.
  • Familiarity with community resources and referral networks.
  • Valid driver's license for occasional client transport, if required.

  • Working with medical professionals in the community
  • Understanding of the 12-Step Recovery Program and other addiction recovery frameworks.
  • Knowledge of group therapy models, particularly those tailored for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Familiarity with adolescent and adult developmental stages and how addiction impacts these populations differently.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) documentation.
  • Understanding of community-based resources for substance abuse treatment and aftercare services.
  • Knowledge of ethical and regulatory requirements in substance abuse treatment, including standards set by CCAPP and DHCS.
Knowledge shall include the signs and symptoms of alcohol and other drug intoxication and withdrawal, as well as the appropriate treatment and monitoring of these conditions and how to facilitate the resident's entry into ongoing care. The handling of medical consultations and referrals shall be a necessity for emergencies.Salary Description $18-19 Hourly
