Duties of this position in the SCDSH WIC Program include but are not limited to:
* Assigned to 1 or 2 WIC clinics co-located within contracted Sun River Health Centers, and affiliate Dolan Family Health Center in Suffolk County.
* Works in assigned WIC clinic providing WIC benefits including NYWIC EBT remotely to WIC clients in their homes during COVID19 public health emergency per USDA and NYS DOH WIC waivers until 90 days after the end of this nationally-declared public health emergency.
* Required to travel to other WIC clinics, and to NYS DOH WIC and SCDHS WIC training locations.
* Supervised by Nutritionist I and/or Nutritionist II/WIC Program Director. SCDHS WIC Administrative Office provides overall management, supervision and work assignments of 9 WIC clinics.
* Attends on-going NYS and SCDHS WIC nutrition and health education, breastfeeding and Farmer Market Nutrition trainings and webinars when scheduled by NYS DOH WIC, NYS WIC Training Center (contracted by Cicatelli Associates) and SCDHS WIC. All WIC and county trainings done virtually until further notice.
* Provides in-service WIC and nutrition related trainings to other WIC employees when assigned.
* Supervises DTRs, non DTR and bilingual office assistant WIC clinic staff to ensure that federal, state and county WIC regulations are followed. Overall management of SCDHS WIC clinics is provided by SCDHS WIC Administrative office located in Great River.
* Provides breastfeeding education and support to prenatal and breastfeeding mothers. Will take the weeklong CLC training when provided by NYS DOH WIC (or provided remotely) to become a WIC Designated Breastfeeding Expert (DBE). Attends ongoing breastfeeding training and when scheduled.
* Completes required WIC Program and NYWIC related webinars and training modules to comply with NYS DOH WIC Program requirements..
* Completes nutrition assessment, develops high-risk nutrition care plans and provides participant-centered nutrition counseling of WIC participants according to NYS DOH and federal WIC regulations.
* Prescribes, tailors, authorizes, issues / re-issues WIC food packages and special formulas prescribed by the health care provider. Also, provides oversight to DTRs providing care to high risk WIC clients.
* Ensures the efficient flow of the nutrition and health assessment and education processes.
* Issues NYWIC EBT benefits, Verification of Certification (VOC) transfers to other WIC Programs and seasonal Farmer Market Nutrition check booklets.
* Does anthropometric (weighing and measuring) measurements of WIC infants, toddlers, preschool children (to age 5), pregnant / postpartum women and breastfeeding mothers as required by NYS DOH WIC. USDA approved waiver to defer physical presence of WIC applicant / client until further notice to determine nutritional risk.
* Determines hematology (Hb: iron level) using HemoCue or Masimo to determine if WIC applicant is anemic. USDA approved waiver to defer bloodwork requirements to determine nutritional risk.
* Does related work as needed and assigned.
* Must comply with Suffolk County Civil Service Dietitian job requirements: RD / RDN required at all times
Pay: $49,642 - $60,395 yearly (commensurate with experience)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree,
AND
Status as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Employees continue to earn vacation days in accordance with the schedule, reaching a maximum of 30 days per year. Unused vacation time rolls over each year until a maximum of 420 hours.
* Sick Time: Earned at the rate of 1/2 day per pay period totaling 13 days annually. Unused sick time rolls over each year, with no maximum rollover.
* Personal Leave: An employee granted 4 days of personnel leave each year. Employees receive 7.5 hours on their 1st day and will accrue one additional day every quarter. After employee first
anniversary, 28 hours of personal days will be frontloaded at the beginning of each year worked. Unused personal time rolls over into sick each year with no maximum rollover.
* Salary: Step increase every 12 months on July 1 completed year of service in addition to contractual raises through 2024.
* Membership in the New York State Retirement Pension System 5 year vested. In order to retire with Health benefits you need to work 10 continuous years with the county and be 55.

A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position.
