GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Boys' School (WBS) is a secure facility providing adjudicated delinquent males ages 12-21 years with opportunities to make changes in their lives. Staff members provide supportive services focusing on psychological/emotional stability, educational and physical development, and mental health therapies. Programs are specifically designed for youth to learn socially responsible values and life skills, restructure their critical thinking and prepare for a successful transition back to their families and communities.As a Nurse at the Wyoming Boys' School, you will be providing professional nursing services to resident students in the juvenile corrections/treatment facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

* Provides professional nursing services to patients, clients, and staff in chronic as well as acute care settings.

* Performs nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment & evaluation of residents.

* Provides continuous care of patients through assessing, evaluating, and implementing processes to assure appropriate patient care and outcomes.

* Accurately prepares and administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician and other providers.

* Provides pre and post-operative care.

* Triages calls from staff and handles routine concerns and emergencies.

* Communicates with Physician and follows through on orders as appropriate.

* Review lab values and consult reports.

* Provides formal assessments, documentation, and progress notes.

* Assists with patient ADLs (activities of daily living).

* Arranges for and conducts nursing clinics and classes; teaches individuals and groups about health promotion and disease prevention.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to Registered Nurse applicants with an associate's degree and one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting.

KNOWLEDGE:

* Knowledge of laws, principles, practices, and techniques of professional nursing.

* Knowledge of the maintenance of medical records, charts, reports, and observations.

* Knowledge of principles of the nursing process and scientific process.

* Knowledge of public healthcare functions and essential services.

* Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.

* Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decision-making.

* Knowledge of physical, biological, and behavioral sciences.

* Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.

* Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice.

* Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to healthcare.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Associate's Degree (typically in Nursing)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

OR

Education & ExperienceSubstitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to:

* Lift/transfer patients to different positions.

* Lift medical/patient equipment of varying sizes and weights up to 50 lbs.

* Work evenings and /or weekends when the situation requires it.

* Work a rotating on- call schedule.

NOTES:

* FLSA: Exempt

* A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for every successful applicant.
