- Directs and organizes HS Nursing staff/vendor in compliance with the provisions of the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act and maintains established Archway Programs HS policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Establishes Nursing scope of practice policy and procedure within the HS Department under the direction of the DD and PCS Directors.
- Monitors and coordinates medication regimens at program elements during program hours through close communication with Advanced Practice Nurses and other health providers.
- Triages and provides emergency medical care as needed.
- Assists consumers with administration of medication. Checks current medications for accuracy.
- Monitors vital signs and blood glucose levels as needed and provides appropriate care.
- Assists with treatment coordination of all consumers.
- Participates in interdisciplinary diagnostic and treatment planning conferences, including case presentations, and makes recommendations regarding the needs of the consumer from a nursing perspective.
- Acts as liaison between psychiatrists, APN vendor, pharmacy, laboratory, families, boarding home operators and other providers to maintain continuity of care.
- Provides psycho-education and supportive counseling in the following areas: general health, coping strategies, nutrition, medication education and substance abuse.
- Conducts in-services for staff as needed/required: Provides Medication Training annually, in-service staff on side effects or adverse drug reactions and by May 1st, summer heat and risks of sun to both consumers and staff per regulatory standards.
- Serves as a consumer advocate.
- Works flexible hours as necessary
- Fulfills all case recording, statistical reporting, and other documentation requirements on an accurate and timely basis, including contact with managed care companies.
- Provides clinical supervision to team members and nursing students if assigned. Coordinates nursing students clinical rotation.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the DD and PCS Directors.
- Provides consultative services to Archway Programs Human Services and Education staff and to other community agencies in the field regarding professional nursing issues and services to our consumer population.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations and safeguards the consumers Bill of Rights.
- Provides culturally sensitive services that are based on knowledge of cultural diversity to accomplish quality consumer care.
- Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Archway Programs standards.
QualificationsOther knowledge, skills, and certifications required:
- Current NJ Registered Nurse License
- 1 - 3 years experience
- Certification in Adult/Child Psychiatric Nursing
- Current CPR Certification
- Current CPI/PRT training
- Knowledge of regulatory and licensing standards
- Appointees will be required to possess a valid driver's license only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
