The registered nurse will support the care of psychiatric patients of all agesincluding children, adolescents, and adults through the care continuum of psychiatric clinicalprograms including but not limited to psychiatric consult, psychiatric observation, as well asadolescent residential program.The role includes performing nursing assessments, providing medication and nursing educationon an individual or group basis, administering medications, supporting milieu management andparticipating in collaborative coordination of care. The registered nurse demonstrates ability tocommunicate therapeutically and establish rapport with patients and their support persons. Theregistered nurse will demonstrate knowledge and skill in the management of aggression, usingverbal de-escalation techniques and least restrictive interventions appropriately. The registerednurse demonstrates knowledge of mental health law, including documentation requirements andpatients' legal rights.The registered nurse will provide clinical guidance and support for new hires, students, nursingassistants and behavioral health technicians. The registered nurse will assume relief chargenurse duty as oriented and assigned. The acute psychiatric services registered nurse reports tothe Assistant Director of Acute Psychiatric Services. Additional clinical and quality feedback willbe provided by the Behavioral Health Nurse Director, Behavioral Health and Ohana MedicalDirectors, and Ohana Director of Clinical Services.Important dimensions of this position include commitment to continuous learning, innovation,professionalism, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. Must have stronginterpersonal skills, flexibility, curiosity, prioritization of safety and quality of care. Must have abroad range of nursing knowledge.*Experience*Minimum of one year experience working with psychiatric patients as a registered nursepreferred.*Education*Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment ofpatients requiring the applicable skill and must complete and pass all annual competencies.*Licensure/Certifications*State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLSrequired. ANCC Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Board Certification preferred. Will completemandatory 5150 training by Monterey County to obtain 5150 certification.
