Job Description:

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Registered Nurse specializing in Behavioral Health for our partner, a mission-driven organization dedicated to providing a diverse range of behavioral health services in West Hartford, Connecticut. This is a temporary opportunity with potential of extension.

What You Will Be Doing

Patient Care & Nursing Process

  • Deliver patient-centered care by applying the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Develop, initiate, and update care plans and treatment plans based on assessments and physician orders.
  • Administer medications (PO, IM, IV) and maintain IV sites per policy.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding health conditions, treatment plans, pain management, and medication.
  • Perform thorough psychiatric assessments and formulate individualized treatment plans, adjusting as needed.
  • Ensure safety and infection control measures are consistently applied.

Communication & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of patient care and nursing processes.
  • Effectively communicate pertinent information to patients, families, colleagues, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to address patient and family needs.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and therapeutic communication skills.

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and support Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in delivering high-quality care.
  • Manage charge responsibilities for the unit and ensure care delivery aligns with professional and organizational standards.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, performance improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary care conferences.

Professional Development & Compliance

  • Maintain current knowledge of nursing practices and adhere to ethical, legal, and professional standards.
  • Complete mandatory training, regulatory requirements, and annual educational programs.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and support organizational goals and changes.
  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance, behavior, and adherence to facility policies.

Behavioral Health Specialty

  • Provide care tailored to adult and geriatric patients in behavioral health settings.
  • Conduct psychiatric interviews and monitor patients' mental status and activities continuously.
  • Deliver psychotherapeutic treatments, including individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention.
  • Ensure appropriate medication administration, particularly psychotropic drugs, while reducing potential errors.
  • Function as an advocate for patients and families, fostering respect, dignity, and emotional support.

Time Management & Flexibility

  • Prioritize responsibilities effectively and work efficiently in high-pressure environments.
  • Arrive promptly for shifts, use time constructively, and maintain attendance reliability.

What You Have to Offer

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing and current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Connecticut.
  • BS in Nursing or a health-related field preferred or actively pursuing.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a behavioral healthcare setting.
  • Experience in gerontological nursing preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Proficient communication skills in English, both verbal and written; additional languages preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of psychosocial, cognitive, and developmental disorders.
  • Completion of all mandatory in-service training as required by the facility.

Compensation & Additional Details

The pay rate for this is offered at $50-$60/hr. depending on experience. The working schedule is third shift: Monday through Friday, 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM and a 12-hour shifts every other weekend.
