Job Description
A recognized services organization in New York City is currently seeking a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) to join one of their growing correctional facilities in Queens. In this role, the Corrections Nurse (RN) will be responsible for providing direct care, education, and support to patients of the facility.
About the Opportunity:
- Assignment Length: 13-week contract
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week & every other weekend
- Hours: 8pm to 8:30am
- Setting: Correctional Health Services
- EMR: EPIC
Responsibilities:
- Provide health care, first aid, immunizations, and assistance in convalescence and rehabilitation
- Monitor, record, and report patients' medical information, vital signs, symptoms, and changes in condition and escalate care, as appropriate
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions
- Prepare patients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments
- Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies, and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained
- Administer local, inhalation, intravenous, and other medications as ordered
- Conduct specified laboratory tests
- Screen patients with mental health problems immediately and making appropriate referrals, as required
- Make rounds to patient care areas to assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate unit nursing care delivery
- Document the medical treatment that is given to the patient
- Keep the equipment clean after use; check and replace damaged and used supplies
- Perform other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of Medical-Surgical experience
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Active NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license
- BLS certification
- Phlebotomy background
- IV Insertion skills
- Conscious Sedation skills
Desired Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
