Job Description:
We are currently hiring a Part-Time Registered Nurse for our Bronx Day Program supporting adults with developmental disabilities. This would be 2 or 3 days/week, days of week flexible, from 8:30AM to 4:30PM. Why Join ADAPT? It's more than a job; it's a calling. It's where passion meets purpose. SUMMARY Under general supervision, is responsible for providing evaluation, diagnosis and therapeutic intervention in accordance with ADAPT Community Network policies, the regulations and requirements of applicable regulatory agencies and the standards of the profession. Monitors treatment plan and progress. Conveys techniques to others. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse - Day Programs will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Serves as a member of interdisciplinary team and is responsible for coordinating and following through on provisions of health care services for assigned program(s).
  • Arranges medical services for persons served and issues medical referrals as needed.
  • Provides follow-up on medical problems for persons served.
  • Conducts training for staff in medical administration, personal hygiene, basic first aid, dental hygiene, infection control, adaptive equipment, vital signs, signs and symptoms of illness and other in-services as may be necessary to meet needs of persons served.
  • Handles control of communicable diseases and infections through identification and assessment, reporting to consulting physician and implementation of appropriate protective and preventive measures and staff training in regard to infection control.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews as required by each division.
  • Monitors required staff health records and provides tests in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
  • Provides immediate first aid with referral to outside emergency services or private physician.
  • Participates in routine individual case reviews.
  • Prepares and maintains medical documentation on each person served.
  • Administers medications when appropriate and supervises certified staff in administration. Supervises storage of medications.
  • Provides supervision and training for Licensed Practical Nurses and/or less experienced Registered Nurses during their tenure at agency.
  • Provides first aid and attends to emergency needs of persons served.
  • Maintains Nursing office and orders supplies as required.
  • Transports persons served to appointments as necessary.
  • Attends team meetings and required in-service as scheduled.
  • Visits persons served at home as requested by Director or designee.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in Nursing field.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License is preferred.
  • License and current registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York
  • CPR
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, individuals, families and outside contacts.
  • Must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs and adaptive devices.
  • Must be willing to work at various program sites.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing
  • At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in the delivery of community-based health services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
