The Nurse Educator will be an expert in industry education standards supporting and guiding caregivers in self-improvement and self-development. The Nurse Educator will assess, guide, support, coordinate, and evaluate caregivers? orientation and ongoing learning needs in alignment with their associated program, service or care group. Under the direction of the Education Manager will be a resource, consultant, and mentor to caregivers and clinical coaches in their assigned area fostering self-reliance and building a social team.The RN Educator may be asked to travel to various locations to perform their work duties.

Scope

  • Provides clinical expertise relating to assigned area for patients, families as well as for a variety of healthcare professionals. Utilizes nursing process for each patient through the nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Assist in coordinating a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care with other members of the care team.
  • Provides individual and group education to patients and families. Provides accurate assessments of a patient's physical and emotional status, identify learning needs and any unique special requirements needed to facilitate a positive learning environment for the patient, patient support/family and the community in the applicable specialty area.
  • Acts as a resource person to healthcare professionals in the hospital, home care and the community regarding specialty area.
  • Consults with physician regarding patient's treatment and educational plans. Develops communication tools to support effective education and disease management.
  • Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required
  • Current/valid Registered Nurse license from the state licensing board required Basic Life Support (BLS) is required
  • May be required to have additional specialty certifications
  • Three (3) years relevant nursing experience and two years is required

Preferred

  • Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Previous formal education activities is preferred

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
