ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nurse will be responsible for implementing the Nursing Process based on established Standards of Practice and ensuring all patient care policies and procedures are adhered to in accordance with Garnet Health Hospital policies, the Nurse Practice Act, and the New York State Licensure requirements. When determining a team member's compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity)QualificationsMinimum Education: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred. Minimum Experience: Nine months' Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Emergency, or Progressive Care experience required. For the ED New Grad Residency program, new graduates with no experience will enter the 9-month Residency Program to meet the experience requirement.Required Certification/Registration:
- Currently licensed and registered in NY State to practice as a registered professional nurse.
- On hire, a valid Basic Life Support course completion card, issued by an organization approved by the Hospital, must be presented. BLS renewal not required once ACLS is obtained.
- Within three months of assignment, employee will attend a hospital-sponsored Crisis Training Program and will attend at least annually for the duration of employment.
- Within three months of assignment, the following classes will be completed, with a valid course completion card issued by an organization approved by the hospital, must be presented and employee will maintain a valid card for the duration of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Prior to the end of the orientation period, a cardiac rhythm course is successfully completed
- Within 6 months of assignment, completion of an ESI 5-level triage class with a refresher class taken not less than every two years
- The following certification classes are preferred
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) presented by the Emergency Nurses Association
- Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course (ENPC) presented by the Emergency Nurses Association
- The following Board Certifications are preferred
- CCRN issued by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses
- CEN issued by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing
- Special Duties: Special duties positions are assignments that are completed by senior Emergency Nurses and require additional training and experience as noted:
- Charge Nurse
- Experience
- Two years of Emergency Nursing experience preferred (in any Emergency Department) preferred
- Six months of Emergency Nursing experience at Catskill Regional Medical Center
Physical Requirements: Position will primarily be medium to light work requiring lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching are required. Position requires 20% sitting and 80% standing or walking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken and written word is required.Working Conditions:
- Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well- lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards. Position may have occasional exposure to blood, body substances, infectious materials, chemical hazards, vibration, radiation, slippery surfaces, or noise that may result from performance of duties.
- Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
