Position Summary:
Administers programs, policies and procedures for The Guthrie Clinic population. The Guthrie clinic population includes Employees, Contract Workers, Volunteers, and Community providers at various locations across the Guthrie system. Occasional travel is required.
The Employee Health Office (EHO) nurse utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social-cultural, developmental and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness.
Education, License, & Certification:
The Employee Health Office (EHO) nurse must be a registered nurse currently licensed by both Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and the NYS Board of Nursing. Completion of Drug Screening Training Certificate, CAQHC Hearing Conservation Technician Training and Fit Test Training required within 1 year of hire. A BSN in Nursing is preferred. Additional Certification in Occupational Health and Tobacco Cessation Counseling is preferred.
Registered nurses currently licensed in Pennsylvania and New York State with current nursing care experience complete an orientation program outlined by The Guthrie Clinic.
Experience:
2 - 3 years of clinical experience in an equivalent setting wherein independent judgement was required in assessing patient conditions and determining action are required. Demonstrated ability in the following areas is desirable:

* Ability to develop and utilize systems for control of extensive information
* Ability to manage an independent departmental function

* Demonstrates competence in performance of nursing skills and procedures relative to Employee Health including:
* Assures compliance with all standards set by JCAHO, PA/NY DOH and all other relevant regulatory agencies.
* Administers and updates EHO policies and procedures.
* Vaccine administration - injections include IM, SQ and ID
* Provides immunization requirements are met for all entities to maintain compliance with DOH, CDC, JCAHO and OSHA - Practices within the scope of current policies and procedures of the employee health department.
* Tuberculosis and Habituation compliance for all New York state Guthrie populations and as needed for those employees that are required to maintain annual TB screening
* Annual Influenza Program - as a requirement of employment, tracks and manages employees to ensure all in scope population are compliant with Guthrie Seasonal Influenza policy.
* Urine Drug screening: DOT, Non-DOT, Reasonable suspicion, Post accident
* Visual acuity screening
* Bloodborne Pathogen exposure work up and follow up criteria - Includes Counseling and Exposure work-up for bloodborne pathogens (Hep C, Hep B and HIV) with follow up plan implemented based on Bloodborne Exposure Policy. Coordinates prophylaxis treatment as appropriate. Ensure source's bloodwork is obtained.
* Completes/Tracks Annual Antineoplastic Surveillance (annual bloodwork/Schedules physicals) on all employees who handle antineoplastics, or who work with patients who receive those drugs. This includes Pharmacy staff, Hospital floor staff, and GMG clinic staff.
* Proficiency in Phlebotomy, specimen handling. N95 Respirator fit testing, including instruction on PAPR use, cleaning, storage and location.
* Appropriate charge entry
* Assumes responsibility of Office in Managers' absence
* Administers Hearing tests to appropriate departments.
* Participates in Organization's Quality Improvement Process - identifies problems and works towards solution.
* Participates in Organization's Lean Six Sigma activities as appropriate.
* Maintains complete, current medical records on all employees to comply with regulatory agencies.
* Assesses, evaluates, reports and documents employee injury/illness for appropriate referral for treatment. Keeps Employee Health Medical Provider apprised of employee illnesses as appropriate.
* Reviews work related employee/contract worker injury /ncident reports. Work with Safety Department and Managers in post-accident investigations.
* Evaluates all individual, department, entity and system trends regarding employee exposures to blood and body fluid, assists employees and managers in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action across all entities.
* Offers Hepatitis B vaccine to employees as needed. Informs employees of schedule of Hepatitis B vaccine dates. Ensure all follow-up vaccine and immunity titers are completed.
* Performs annual respiratory fit testing to assigned locations across the Guthrie System, for employees who have direct patient contact.
* NYS Employees: Notifies every hospital employee about their annual health assessment; Schedules appointment for annual assessment, PPD administration, immunization review. Tracks compliance. Notifies employee's department manager of any employees that are not compliant. Provides copy of immunization record at employee request.
* As needed: Assists, in conjunction with the Program Manager of Workers' Compensation, in providing injured employees with alternative work assignments or creating light duty or restricted duty assignments whenever possible for injured employees. Provides, in conjunction with the Program Manager of Workers' Compensation, day-to-day administrative duties for the Return-to-Work Program. Attends Workers' Comp meetings and offers input as appropriate. Reviews incidents with Medical Director and Workers' Comp. Manager - determine if additional measures should be taken to prevent future injuries.
* Arrange Employee Fit for Duty and Return to Work exams as requested by Human Resources.
* Document all vaccine administration and exams at the time of the visit.
* Provides periodic blood pressure, weight, temperature monitoring for employees as requested. Recognizes emergency situations and initiates proper plan of action. May be required to respond to critical situations involving employee's health.
* Participates on various committees and provides EHO data: Infection Control, Safety/Risk Management, Emergency Preparedness, GOHST and others as appropriate.
* Assists and participates in Employee Wellness Programs. Participates in Health and Benefit Fair - coordinates Flu vaccines for employees
* Demonstrates respect and consideration for all employees as individuals, respecting cultural differences, and maintaining confidentiality of all employee information.
* Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with co-workers, physicians, and other members of Guthrie staff so as to promote efficiency and to provide quality care. Participates in problem solving by confronting and resolving conflicts in a constructive manner. Represents the hospital in a professional courteous manner to patients, families, and health care team while being sensitive to how others perceive both verbal and non-verbal communications.
* Prioritizes work assignments and sets goals in order to manage daily assignments.
* Prepares and submits reports to various Managers, Administration and Committees as requested.
* Demonstrates willingness to accept non-routine work assignments as appropriate. Greets employees and answers telephone.
* Utilizes time between procedures to maintain clean and orderly work environment and help other staff with various tasks.
* May be required (by needs of employees) to perform counseling or at minimum, to recognize problems of an emotional or psychological nature and refer the employee to an appropriate resource. Refers employees to the Employee Assistance Program as needed or refer to own healthcare provider.
* Schedules and confirms appointments. Arranges consults and referrals to other areas as directed by the provider.
* Coordinates and maintains annual Volunteer Health Assessment Records. This includes annual TB screening of volunteers.
* Assists with preparations of the employee for examinations, procedures, tests.
* Screens the employee for appropriate information of past immunizations, present medical history and history of current problem.
* Prepares, instructs employees and performs the collection of blood and any other lab related specimens.
* Travelers - Reviews immunization records and physical records to ensure they have completed requirements prior to start of work.
* Demonstrates and integrates age-specific care for the adolescent, adult, geriatric population as delineated by the adolescent, adult/geriatric guidelines for care, and appropriate standards for care and practice.

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $45.26/hr.
