Of Human Services Opening Date: 09/19/2024 Closing Date: 10/4/2024 4:30 PM Central Classification Summary County Department of Human Services is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time (40 hours per week) Registered Nurse (PHN Track) to provide client care in the public health program by working with schools, local hospitals/nursing homes, county welfare departments and other agencies in providing public health nursing services to communities, families and individuals; provides skilled nursing care in the home; and instructs individuals, families and the community on health issues and the care of the sick. Primary hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. No nights, weekends or holidays. For information on how to apply, see Examination Process section below. Examples of Duties Merit System Class Specifications • Provides skilled nursing care and prescribed medical treatment to patients and demonstrates care to patients, families, practical nurses, and aides. • Identifies, observes, reports and records symptoms and conditions of patients. • Assists as a team member in the development of nursing care plans. • Gives medically ordered immunizations, tuberculin tests, treatment and medication. • Assists with medical examination, takes histories, and performs screening and recording activities at clinic and schools. • May give directions and assignments to licensed practical nurses and/or home health aides. • Helps explain agency services and policies to persons receiving service and to other persons with whom she works. • Gives general information to the public about the local public health agency and its services. • Attends staff meetings and participates in continuing educational programs. Minimum QualificationsRegistered Nurse: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota in the State of Minnesota. Houston County Preferred Qualifications: Education and Experience • A degree from an accredited school of nursing, and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Thorough knowledge of the application of nursing practices, considerable knowledge of public health nursing theory, current trends in public health care service delivery; service eligibility requirements; available public and private community health and social service resources/functions; diseases and the characteristics of each; prescription drugs and their use. • The ability to apply the principles of public health nursing to families, individuals and community; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff, other agencies, clients and the general public; identify and eliminate duplication of services; to think logically in all situations • The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and respond to needs appropriately • 2 years nursing experience, preferably with a Public Health Agency Employees required to use County and/or Personal vehicles must maintain a valid driver's license, reliable and safe transportation and adequate insurance coverage. **As a condition of employment the County requires the employee to complete a BSN and obtain a MN Public Health Nurse Certificate within 3 years of employment.Examination Process The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience based on the information you provide in your application and your responses to the supplemental questions included in the application process.
