Job Description:
The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking a qualified nursing professional for our Registered Nurse I (RN I) position. The Registered Nurse I participates in, coordinates, and supervises the delivery of health care services to individuals with disabilities within a cluster of homes in a Residential Services setting. The RN I provides assessments, consultations, and advocacy to ensure the maintenance of optimum health care and to promote maximum independence. The RN I will support the RN IIs and LPNs as designated by the RN Managers and State Op. Directors. As part of daily assignments, the incumbent will be required to drive between work sites and to perform other related duties as required. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
  • Provides episodic nursing care including administration of medications and provide treatment by assessing health status of individuals, recording related health data, evaluating and adjusting care in conjunction with other providers.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of nursing and pharmacy policies and procedures. Assists with checking physician orders, pharmacy labels and medication record for accuracy.
  • Develops, implements, and reviews the Health Record/Addendum and related health documents.
  • Identifies and participates/coordinates in the provision of preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care for individuals.
  • Provides clinical health care consultation of individuals to staff.
  • Develops relationships, communicates effectively with appropriate staff, health care providers and families/guardians.
  • Participates as a member of interdisciplinary ISP team, Clinical team by providing assessments, plans, documentations, and data collection. Provides clinical input to ensure integration of health care and rehabilitative needs. Participates in psychotropic drug reviews. Attends house team meetings and other meetings as requested.
  • Advocates for individuals to ensure appropriate medical care is in compliance with human rights
  • Schedules and may attend medical appointments
  • Monitors inventory and proper use of supplies and equipment.
  • Evaluates physical environment and makes recommendations to ensure health and safety are maintained and psychosocial and physical development is promoted.
  • Participates in survey and certifications and in quality assurance activities
  • Utilizes HCSIS
  • Annually completes supportive and protective device forms
  • Communicates with pharmacist to provide and ensure Medicare Part D insurance plans are in place.
  • Responsible for completed consult forms prior to medical appointments.
  • Fills out behavior medication and pre-medication consents annually.
  • Maintains travel folder and health related assessments.
PLEASE NOTE: This position is located in Northampton, MA and provides coverage throughout the Commonwealth Community Services Program. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position.
  • Schedule: 3:00pm - 11:00pm
  • Days Off: Week 1: Thursday/Friday
