Location: Syracuse VA Medical Center
Position Overview: The Syracuse VA Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse specializing in either Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) or Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) nursing. This contract position plays a crucial role in providing high-quality care to our nation's veterans, utilizing advanced skills and specialized knowledge in cardiovascular procedures or general medical-surgical nursing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the Syracuse VA Medical Center.
- Conduct patient assessments and collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Monitor patients undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures, ensuring safety and adherence to procedural protocols.
- Administer medications and intravenous therapies as prescribed, and monitor patient responses.
- Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient assessments, care provided, and treatment outcomes.
- Assist in the preparation of patients for procedures and support them during recovery phases.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications:
- Current, active registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in any U.S. state or territory.
- Specialized experience in either Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) or Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) nursing.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification preferred for Cath Lab nurses.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Commitment to providing compassionate care to veterans and understanding of the unique healthcare needs of the veteran population.
- Knowledge of Federal regulations and policies governing healthcare delivery is preferred.
