About the Role The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) is to provide administrative and clinical support to the Physicians, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners of the practice. The RN position requires a highly organized individual who can safely manage more than one task at a time and move efficiently throughout varied responsibilities. The RN must be able to work independently as well as interact as part of a team, consistently demonstrating respect and professionalism to fellow staff members.
What You'll Be Doing Administrative - The RN directs M.D. and/or midlevel providers' patient schedule throughout the day.
- The RN greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner and escorts the patient to the examination room.
- Schedules patient appointments and medical procedures (x-rays and diagnostic testing) in the EMR under the direction of the medical staff.
- Obtains prior authorizations for medications and completes disability paperwork.
- Ensures surgical scheduling worksheet is complete and send to the surgical scheduler.
- Is responsible for stocking and ordering of medical supplies and checking expiration dates.
- Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner making sure that examination rooms are set up for the day (stocking supplies, cleaning, changing solutions).
- Prepares room & equipment for office procedures and assists the provider as needed (Vasectomy, Tursp, cystoscopy).
- Triage patient calls with professionalism and courtesy understanding that some patients require more time than others. Resolves patient issues and concerns as effectively as possible. Able to assess, plan and document patient issues. Counsel, educate and perform patient teaching.
- Responsible for completing, on time, all training and in-services, including but not limited to annual OSHA training and PPD placements.
Clinical - After proper identification of the patient by full name and birthdate, the RN will greet patients in the waiting area and escort them to the clinical care area for which their appointment is scheduled. Once the patient is placed in the exam room, the RN assists in placing all personal belongings in the appropriate place in the exam room. Any medications that the patient has brought to the visit should be placed into patient's EMR.
- Obtains patient's weight and vital signs; record in the EMR. Assist lab staff to obtain urine, uro-flow if needed and document in EMR. Completes a review of systems and a medication check with patients: checks recent labs performed outside of AMP, hospital visits and other physician visits. Assess the reason for the scheduled appointment.
- The RN is responsible for preparing the patient for their appointment. Female patients should be asked to undress from the waist down depending on the medical issue. Male patients should be asked to remove shoes/socks, shirt/T shirt and no gown is used.
- The RN explains procedures to the patients addressing any questions or concerns they may have. Preps, positions and prepare sterile field and assists M.D.
- The RN is responsible for ensuring that exam rooms are cleaned and supplies are stocked. After routine patient encounters this includes disposing of table paper and gowns and cleaning contaminated surfaces areas. During down-time tables, door handles, blood pressure cuffs, chairs and pull pars should be cleaned.
- At the end of the day the RN is responsible for making sure that all patients have been discharged, exam rooms are stocked, clean and lights have been turned off.
- Maintains working knowledge of OSHA compliance standards and applies these policies and procedures to daily responsibilities.
- Monitors eyewash stations, refrigerator temperatures and other office equipment per protocol.
- The RN prepares and administers I.M. and subQ injections of medications per M.D. orders, documents in the EMR. Performs blood glucose monitoring with the glucometer per protocol.
- Administer Intravesical BCG, Mitomycin, DMSO, Valstar and various interstitial cystitis cocktails as ordered by provider.
- Changes uncomplicated Foley catheters, teaches intermittent clean self-catheterizations. Performs bladder scans and flow tests as directed.
- Documents all nursing interventions performed using the EMR including date, time, meds, dosage, site, adverse reactions, type of administration, etc.
- Reports any adverse medication events to supervising provider.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
What We Expect from You - Graduate of an accredited RN Program
- Current New York State License
- Current CPR certification
- At least one (1) year of medical/surgical experience is preferred
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems.
