Job Type Part-time Description Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, program development, and the delivery of direct services. Our organization is looking for a motivated individual with a calling to help adults with mental illness by becoming a Registered Nurse. To provide assistance and care to adults diagnosed with mental illness participating in the Gathering Place PROS. The Registered Nurse will ensure that all medical/nursing policies and procedures are carried out and that the care provided for each member promotes maximum overall health. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Must be able to move easily throughout the facility.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with participants, personnel and outside support agencies.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is involved with members, personnel, visitors, etc. under all conditions and circumstances.
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep abreast of changes in the profession.
- Is subject to exposure to infectious diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to AIDS and Hepatitis B Viruses.
- Must be able to travel independently in the community to administer medication (when necessary).
- Administer injections of prescribed medications under supervision of PROS psychiatrist.
- Prepare necessary documentation required for position. These include Progress Notes, Medication reviews, and Quarterly Health Assessments. Additional documentation may be assigned by the administration of Gathering Place PROS program.
- Monitor PROS physical plant to ensure proper storage of psychotropic medications that are administered onsite. Medication should be secure and inventoried appropriately. The PROS Clinic Office should be maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Assess medical care regimen for each member enrolled in PROS clinic.
- Must be able to communicate unscheduled absences immediately to PROS program administration.
- Perform treatment and First Aid to members as necessary.
- Conduct group training for program participants addressing personal hygiene habits, disease prevention, health and wellness, proper usage of medications and other classes as required.
- Conduct necessary training and provide in-service for PROS staff.
- Assist with other health-related duties as necessary and required.
- Ensure that all medical/nursing/psychiatric policies and procedures are carried out within Federal, State and Agency guidelines.
- Implement facets of the program including program philosophy, and goals and objectives that adhere to agency policy and procedures.
- Consult with program staff around consumer incidents and/or accidents on premises.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with program staff to assure services and activities are adequately maintained to meet the needs of the members.
- Collaborate with program administration regarding plans of corrective action.
- Follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Participate in all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills in a safe and professional manner.
- Implement infection control program for monitoring communicable and/or infection diseases among members and personnel.
- Follow procedures for reporting unsafe/hazardous conditions or equipment.
- Has the ability to review labs and pharmaceutical orders. PROS Registered Nurse is to intervene as necessary.
- Registered Nurse is to maintain confidentiality of all member information.
- Program participants are to be treated fairly with kindness, dignity and respect.
- Awareness of members' rights and responsibilities.
Requirements Education & Experience:
- Must be a Registered Nurse and be licensed to practice in the State of New York.
- Licensed registered nurse
- Prior experience in mental health preferred but not required
Other Qualifications:
- Clean NYS driver's license preferred. Must have ability to travel within community.
- Must have knowledge of MS Word, Google Chrome, basic internet and the ability to utilize Electronic Health Records.
- Must be able to represent agency in an appropriate manner.
- Must exhibit motivation to learn health practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to community mental health programs.
Salary Description $50 per hour
