Summary of Need:To provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with the established systematic problem-solving approach for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care, which are compliant with the regulatory standards in a correctional setting.Registered Nurses will be responsible for handling sick call, administering medications, tool control, triaging sick calls, insulin administration, screening and reporting, emergency room use, emergencies such as Narcan, physical force injuries, asthma rescue, employee accident/injury, sexual abuse/assault reporting, maintaining health records, and administrative responsibilities regarding death.Job duties include, but are not limited to:Diagnose and treat a patient's health problems.Perform health assessments to identify new symptoms of possibly undiagnosed conditions or complications.Administer medication.Manage and deliver restorative or palliative care to the ill, disabled and dying.Teach and counsel patients about maintenance of health and prevention of illness or complications.Contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team and as a consultant on health related committees to plan and implement the health care needs of consumers.Execute medical regimens as prescribed by licensed physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, podiatrists, and dentists. Includes advanced practice nurses such as: clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists.Advanced practice nursing is practiced by RNs who have specialized formal, post-basic education and who function in highly autonomous and specialized roles.Registered nurses must be licensed in New York State and have a minimum of one year work experience post licensure.Conducts nursing assessments; and obtains, records, and updates individuals' health information and vital signs, using standard instruments and procedures.Prepares individuals for and/or assists with examinations and treatments; and administers medications and nursing procedures to individuals, as prescribed.Observes, monitors, and records individuals' symptoms, conditions, and care, including diet and physical activity; and identifies and reports individuals' responses to medication or changes in health status.Serves as the nursing representative on a treatment team; provides information on nursing needs; and consults and coordinates with treatment teams and other health care disciplines to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate individuals' care.Makes clinical rounds to assess individuals' nursing care needs and observe and participate in the provision of nursing services.Provides health teaching, and education to incarcerated individuals.Conduct sick calls for incarcerated individuals, prepare comprehensive medical summary, immunizations/ vaccine administration.Maintain inventory standards for medicines, controlled drugs and narcotics.Review the overall health condition of youth by preparing and continually reviewing and evaluating plans of nursing intervention to ensure that such interventions are consistent with specific and comprehensive treatment plans.Participate in staff training, prepare clinical and administrative reports, maintain infection control standards, and function as a member of a treatment team.Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.Qualifications:Registered Nurse in New York State.Minimum of one (1) or more years office experience.Highly motivated, independent thinker and self-starter.Enthusiastic team player.Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.Able to manage multiple projects. Strong follow-up and communication skills.Excellent computer skills.
