Job Summary This position is designated as part-time with day/evening rotating shifts with some weekend and holiday shifts. The work schedule will include at least 64 hours per two-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. A correctional health care nurse practices in a primary care setting much like a clinic or transitional care unit. The nurse is presented with opportunities to use a full range of nursing skills along with broad knowledge of disease processes. The nurse works closely with other health care providers, including primary care physicians and mid-level practitioners, and ensures that individuals receive needed health care in a manner that does not compromise nor conflict with security issues within the correctional facility. This position assists in the provision of individual health care; assists in the medication process; assists with other functions as delegated by the charge nurse/supervisor; maintains a system for accurate and thorough medical record keeping; provides health education; and maintains adequate inventory and security of medical supplies and equipment.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. - Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota that is current, active, and without restrictions, limitations, or conditions.
- Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email.
Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
- A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care and/or clinic setting.
- Experience working in a correctional or secured setting.
- Experience in a specialized clinical area(s), such as in gender-specific, geriatric, juvenile health care, medical/surgery unit, and/or behavioral health.
Physical Requirements The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. Additional Requirements The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation. Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy.
