Job DescriptionResponsible for the care activities and goal achievements of assigned patients by assessing, diagnosing, planning and intervening in actual or potential health problems and evaluating patient's response to care. Responsible health teaching and discharge planningActs as a member of a designated care team and collaborates, coordinates and guides team members in planning patient care activities. Demonstrates behaviors, which reflect the scientific knowledge, judgment and teaching skills of a professional nurseResponsibilitiesRegistered Nurse - Mount Sinai Brooklyn - 3 East/Progressive Care Unit - Full-time nightRoles & Responsibilities:
  • Nursing assessment based on interview, examination, observation and review of records of the patient.
  • Develops a goal oriented care plan based on the nursing assessment, with participation of patient and significant others.
  • Nursing actions are consistent with the care plan and medical regimen and hospital procedures
  • Demonstrates a competent level of technical skill which reflect the scientific knowledge, judgment and technical skills of professional nursing.
  • Assists in development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and professional practice in collaboration with members of the health care team and in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Coordinates patient care activities, based on established priorities, including teaching, rounding, counseling, and discharge planning, and directs/delegates appropriately to members of the health care team.
  • Provide professional nursing care to a special group of SURGICAL STEPDOWN PATIENTS - including IV therapy, medication administration and documentation. Utilize the nursing process in all aspects of care delivery. Participate in management and care of patients on telemetry, including administration of IV antiarrhythmic drugs and EKG interpretation.
QualificationsRequirements:
  • Current RN NYS License, ACLS, BLS required
  • Progressive care experience a plus
  • Specialty Certification preferred
  • Cardiac Telemetry experience preferred
  • IV/Phlebotomy, EKG certification skills required
  • Critical thinking and excellent communication skills required.
  • Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing preferred.
  • Documented previous experience or educational preparation to support credentials.
  • Relevant clinical competence in area of nursing practice. Special skills/experience may be required in specialized areas.
  • Minimum 1 year telemetry Med/Surg experience in a hospital setting
  • EKG skills and certification required.
