**Description:**
**Position Purpose:**
Provides care across the surgical continuum, from pre-admission scheduling, testing, and teaching, preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care (phase I-III), discharge and postoperative follow-up care in various settings (operating room, endoscopy suites and all areas where surgical procedures may be performed). Functions in the role of a scrub and/or circulating nurse. Cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment according to prescribed procedures and techniques. Assists surgeons in Specialty Clinic as needed.
**What you will Do:**
+ Assesses the patient's, physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social and education needs through the surgical experience.
+ Develops and implements patient's plan of care, including the discharge plan based on evidence-based practice standards, health center policy, and patient/family needs. Reviews and updates the plan of care based on changes in patient's condition.
+ Evaluates and documents patient/family responses to nursing interventions while working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired patient care outcomes.
+ Provides or facilitates learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of patient/family by assessing the learning needs and formulating and initiating a reaching plan to meet those needs
+ Documents patient information in the electronic/paper medical record at the bedside or as soon as possible. Delegates and supervises patient care activities within the scope of practice of the healthcare worker to meet the patient care needs for the above-indicated population.
+ Practices principles of sterile and medical asepsis in the operating room and/or endoscopic suite. Cleans and prepares the operating room and/or endoscopy suite for cases according to surgeon's preference card/protocols. Follows recommended practices for cleaning and caring for surgical instruments and equipment. Prepares and sterilizes instruments and supplies utilizing recommended processing practices/standards. Monitors and evaluates equipment to assure that it is in proper working order.

**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Graduate of a program in professional nursing.
+ Current RN licensure in the State of Iowa.
+ Demonstrates competency in acute care setting. Minimum of 2-3 years.
+ Ability to work flexible hours and participate in surgical call rotation (must be within 30 minutes of the hospital).
+ Must provide proof of **Basic Life Support** (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
+ Completes **Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse** requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.
+ Completes **Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)** - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
+ Completes **Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)** - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
