Position Summary
The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and functions as a Team Leader. He/she is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area. He/she evaluates patient's physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient and their family. The Registered Nurse is responsible for all nursing personnel assigned to the Team. He/she functions as a mentor to their team, teaching and demonstrating nursing care procedures. He/she maintains a professional profile, promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Duties of a Registered Nurse may include the following but are not limited to:
Uses the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care.
Collects data relevant to patient's condition and reports critical values to physician in a timely manner.
Assesses appropriate lab and diagnostic data.
Documents findings of physical assessment and is able to identify abnormal findings.
Develops plan of care based on patient need.
Advocates on behalf of the patient and their family.
Performs interventions according to patient need and hospital policy.
Evaluates patient outcomes in relation to goals.
Adheres to all safety guidelines and exercises the utmost care when interacting with patients.
Demonstrates a professional demeanor in interactions with patient, family, peers, and staff, and maintains open communication with nursing management.
Other duties as deemed appropriate by management.
Qualifications
Required:
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
Current Licensure to practice in New York State
Current BLS and ACLS provider certifications from the American Heart Association
NRP certification within 6 months of hire
On Call required
Standing/walking 90% of the time
Ability to lift patients with or without assistance
Ability to push heavy objects
Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Recent experience in Obstetrics/Labor & Delivery
Fetal Monitoring certification
