The Operating Room offers the opportunity to work in a fast paced environment with an energetic and stimulating group of providers and colleagues. OR orientation is 3-6 months, depending on previous experience, guided by PeriOp 101 through AORN, and using a didactic education model, in conjunction with hands-on learning. Skill development resources include a StimLab, Virtual Reality Headset, StimMan, and access to CNOR education, along with organization-wide resources. OR RNs are able to develop their skills in both scrub and circulation responsibilities, and case variety allows for new experiences on a consistent basis. Cayuga Medical Center also houses a DaVinci Surgical System for robotic-assisted procedures.
Roles and Responsibilities:
* Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
* Assesses patient physical condition. Reviews history & physical, vital signs, diagnostic studies, reports any abnormalities.
* Conducts pre- and post-operative education. Assess knowledge level, ability to understand and coping mechanisms of patient and support system and educate as needed.
* Appropriately utilizes Universal Protocol per Cayuga Medical Center policy.
* Communicates and documents monitoring and physiologic responses to interventions (e.g. Medications, vital signs, LOC, skin color, change in physical status, etc.) to alert surgeon/anesthesiologist of changes that may require medical intervention.
* Demonstrates adherence to infection control policies and correct hand washing/scrubbing technique.
* Demonstrates adherence to safety policies.
* Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with other departments (Main Campus or SC, ED, Radiology, ICU, etc).

0700-1700, 0700-1900, 0800-1800, 0800-2000 w/call
Required Skills and Experience:
* Active New York Nursing license or ability to obtain
* Associates Degree in Nursing
Preferred Skills and Experience:
* BLS, ACLS, PALS (new hires have the opportunity to obtain these certifications during introductory period)
Physical Requirements:
* Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.

* $39.63 to $48.18 per hour
