Primary duties will reside within Hofstra University's Student Health Services. In the ambulatory care setting, the RN provides nursing care that is not limited to but includes: performing routine, office procedures and testing, administration of medications, patient triage, teaching, referral, and follow up care. In addition, the Registered Professional Nurse also supports the overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care within Student Health Services.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Clinical
- Assesses and triages patients in an ambulatory care setting consistent with the health services policies and philosophies.
- Identifies nursing needs of the patient and delivers them as defined by the nursing practice parameters of the NY state licensing board.
- Promotes service standards and creates a patient focused caring environment while addressing and meeting the individual needs of the patient.
- Assesses patient's education needs and provides instructions or referrals to appropriate provider.
- Communicates effectively with the health care team to improve patient care.
- Demonstrates patient advocacy, assuring patients' rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for individual nursing practice with respect to nursing judgment and actions associated with the performance of all duties.
- Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect with nurse practitioners, physician colleagues, nurses, NP students and faculty, and other healthcare team members.
- Maintains compassionate and caring relationships with all colleagues and others, with a commitment to the fair treatment of individuals, to integrity-preserving compromise, and to resolving conflict.
- Demonstrates responsibility to preserve integrity and safety with respect to others and self, to maintain competence, and to continue personal and professional growth.
- Independently performs assigned duties and responsibilities.

Outreach and Education
- Seeks educational opportunities for professional growth, sharing information learned with other staff as appropriate.
- Maintains active membership in national and regional professional health organizations.
- Attends and/or participates in University meetings and in-service offerings as needed.
- Serves as an advocate for student health on campus, including communication of information about Student Health Services to the student population.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
- An active, current unencumbered New York State Registered Nurse license.
- A minimum of two years of experience as an RN, with at least one year in an ambulatory care or emergency department setting.
- Basic Life Support certification.
