Job Details:Provide professional nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process. To collaborate with other members of the health care delivery team including physicians, to deliver quality health care. Primary role is the delivery of competent clinically appropriate placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Lines and/or Midlines as ordered, including maintenance and care of all Central Lines.RESPONSIBILITIES:* Assess patients with difficult access or need for long term IV therapy for appropriate vascular access device* Works with staff nurses, physicians, case managers and other team members to insure early assessment for VAD selection and implementation* Participates in education with Vascular Access education with patient, family members and staff* Reviews physicians order* Obtains consent* Reviews medical records for any contraindications of peripheral vascular access* Determines the best vascular access device for the patient based on medications, current access status, diagnoses, length of IV therapy and etc.* Reports directly to the Systems Director of Infection prevention & Control* Troubleshoots difficult complications of VAD's or assists staff in troubleshooting* Document completely and accurately in the patients permanent medical recordQUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:Experience: Minimum of two years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting required.EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing required; a bachelor's degree or master's degree in Nursing preferred.Licenses/Certifications: Current New York State RN licensure required. Current BLS required. Valid PICC Insertion Certification required.OTHER:The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
