Registered Nurse 2nd and 3rd shift- This is a professional nursing position in the nursing home that involves coordinating individual resident care and performing nursing services requiring substantial specialized judgment and skills. The work is performed under the general supervision of a nursing supervisor and in accordance with a prescribed interdisciplinary care plan. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Nursing Assistants and unit helpers. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Assesses and addresses resident care needs; Supervises Nursing Assistants and unit helpers engaged in care and treatment of residents; Directs the personal care of residents in the facility,; Observes symptoms, reports and carries out diagnostic procedures as ordered by a physician; Prepares and applies dressing, administers medication and provides nursing and therapeutic treatment as prescribed; Instructs patient and/or family members in regard to resident's diet, health care, and rehabilitative measures as prescribed; Performs other services for residents to prevent illness and improve health; Observes resident activity during meal periods and remains alert to emergencies; May assist physician with resident rounds. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of current nursing practice; Skill in the application of current practical nursing procedures and techniques of resident care,; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; Dependability, resourcefulness, good observation skills and professionalism; Ability to operate medical equipment (e.g. suction machine, oxygen units, vaporizers); Ability to maintain detailed records and prepare reports; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a course of study approved by the New York State Education Department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse and licensure to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; or Completion of a course of study approved by the New York State Education Department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse and a limited permit to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
