Registered Nurse - Radiology

Position Summary: At Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital ( SBELIH), the PT Registered Nurse will function as a member of the Radiology Team. TThe position required the Registered Nurse to independently transport patients to and from all units for all radiology services, both critical and non-critical utilize universal precautions and reporting SBAR.

Duties of a Registered Nurse - Radiology:

  • Independently transport patients to and from all units for all radiology services, both critical and non-critical care utilize universal precautions and reporting SBAR
  • Demonstrates proficiency for proper placement/positioning of patients on and off radiological exam tables
  • Demonstrates proficiency in hand injections of contrast, knowledge of use of power ports
  • Assist MD with biopsies, sedations, surgical sterile.
  • Familiar with pre-medication protocols
  • Assess lab values to ensure patient safety and response to contrast reactions
  • Be a patient advocate when there are multiple health factors that may be contradiction for IV contrast
  • Knowledge of contrast medias, administration protocols of pharmacological and non-pharmaceutical
  • Knowledge and care of infiltration of contrast media; radiation safety and exposure; contrast agents approved by the FDA via power ports; MRI contrast; Gauss lines; a quench; the release of helium gases; assessment devices; lab values for administration of MRI contrast; treating excess heating ad burns associated with magnet field; treating excess heating and burns associated with magnet field; emergency spill procedures; monitoring rings and badges; isotopes being administered; tests being performed; potential biological effects associated with radiation exposure
  • Demonstrates proficiency for proper flow rates and PSI for contrast injections; drawing peripheral lab work: appropriate patient positioning for proper procedure; proper placement of patient for breast MRI; using and troubleshooting power injector; performance of patient GFR calculation; proper positioning of patient for bore of magnet for appropriate tests; use of all MRI safety equipment, BP, ECG, delivery of O2 source
  • Assist with conscious sedation, patient monitoring, arrhythmia recognition.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures of emergency plans; nuclear medicine and radiation safety
  • Demonstrates appropriate use and storage of radioactive isotopes, half-life, energy levels, distance time and shielding
  • Ability to inject using led shielded syringe, HOT BOX usage
  • Knowledge of all potential biological effects associated with radiation exposure
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department
  • Maintains ethical relationships
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations
  • Participates in in-service programs

Qualifications

Required: Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York State. BSN. Current BLS certification required. Current ACLS certification required. PALS certification preferred. Seven (7) years current Radiology experience preferred. Radiology Nursing certification (eligibility within 6 months of hire).

Special Notes: Resume/CV should be included with the online application. Shift/hours are Mondays 8am-4:30pm and every other Thursday to over the Sedation case 8am-4pm. Hours may be modified to meet patient needs. Days may increase due to departmental needs.
