Job Description:
Key Responsibilities: 1. Direct Patient Care: • Perform comprehensive physical assessments of inmates and develop appropriate care plans. • Administer medications, wound care, and other treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers. • Assist with emergency care, triage, and provide interventions for chronic and acute conditions. • Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjust care plans, and document medical findings accurately. 2. Medical Procedures and Triage: • Conduct initial intake screenings, sick calls, and emergency response. • Provide immediate care for medical emergencies, including stabilization and crisis intervention. • Triage health complaints and prioritize care based on the severity of the condition. 3. Collaboration and Communication: • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, mental health staff, and custody officers, to ensure coordinated and safe patient care. • Communicate medical information effectively to patients, healthcare professionals, and correctional staff. 4. Education and Counseling: • Educate inmates on managing their health conditions, medication adherence, and preventive healthcare. • Offer health education related to chronic diseases, infectious diseases, and substance use. 5. Documentation and Compliance: • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient medical records in accordance with CDCR standards. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and CDCR policies regarding healthcare in correctional settings. • Follow all safety protocols, including infection control measures. 6. Security and Safety: • Provide care in a secure environment while ensuring the safety of both staff and patients. • Monitor for potential safety risks and collaborate with correctional officers to maintain a secure setting. Minimum Qualifications: • Licensure: Must possess a valid and active Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing. • Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing). • Certifications: CPR/BLS certification is required; ACLS certification is a plus. • Experience: Previous experience in a correctional or institutional setting is preferred, though not required.
