Williamsburg Landing, a CARF-accredited life plan community, seeks experienced and caring Registered Nurses (RN) to provide nursing care for those in the Health and Rehabilitation Center. We are looking to fill Full-Time, Part-Time Plus, and Part-Time positions. Ideal candidates will have flexible availability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed. RNs should also possess strong attention to detail, excellent follow through, and the ability to relate positively with residents, guests, and staff.

JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing and assumes the charge position on assigned shifts. The RN is responsible for the nursing care of the residents in the Health and Rehabilitation Center (HRC) and for any emergency care of residents and/or staffing problems that may arise.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Rounds on assigned residents at least twice per shift to ensure resident safety and implementation of the plan of care; makes rounds with outgoing and incoming nurse to discuss residents on caseload and observed changes
  • Performs professional nursing tasks and nursing procedures including venipuncture and intravenous therapy according to current standards, policies, and procedures
  • Ensures all shift responsibilities are completed prior to the end of shift and completes daily skilled notes to document resident observations, changes in condition, response to care, delivery of medication and treatments, and other pertinent information according to departmental standards, policies and procedures; maintains and updates resident's medical charts and care plans as necessary
  • Informs the Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing of any problems that arise during the shift
  • Orders labs and medications per the physician's order; enters any new orders in the EMR and notifies resident's representative of new orders
  • Contacts physicians, other professional personnel and families, as necessary
  • Greets new admissions within 30 minutes of their arrival and thoroughly completes the admission process
  • Offers bed hold information to residents who are being sent to the hospital
  • Utilizes the Interact SBAR tool for change in resident conditions
  • Oversees Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) activities to ensure resident needs are met; obtains information from CNAs regarding response to care, changes in condition, or other information gathered during the shift; holds CNAs accountable for timely and accurate completion of scheduled vital signs and weights
  • Assists CNAs with ADLs when assistance is needed
  • Appropriately addresses allegations or sightings of potential abuse/neglect by rescuing the resident, reporting it immediately and reassuring the resident
  • Assists with resolving staffing needs and emergency staffing problems as they arise
  • Investigate any incidents that occur during the shift and complete incident investigation. Report all incidents promptly to DON/ADON. Follow appropriate interventions to prevent future incidents.
  • In absence of clinic staff or DON/ADON during weekend or evening/night shifts, respond to employee incidents or injuries to triage/provide first aid and investigate and document events according to employees incident procedures. Report all incidents involving staff injury promptly to DON/ADON and Talent Management.
  • Answers the facility telephone promptly or delegates the task to another team member
  • Keeps work environment clean and tidy
  • Ensures that infection control protocols are followed by fellow team members
  • Notify Nursing management and Materials Management when supplies are low or equipment is needed to carry out their responsibilities
  • Participates in facility performance improvement initiatives and mandatory in-services and meetings; serves on committees as requested.
  • Assists management staff during licensing reviews
  • Maintains positive and professional relationships with residents, guests, and other Williamsburg Landing employees; monitors staff for professionalism and positive interactions
  • Serves as a positive mentor for new team members and provides a comprehensive onboarding experience
  • Complies with and enforces department and company policies and procedures including standards of conduct, attendance, dress, and safety
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Registered Nurse, licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia; two or more (2+) years of nursing experience in an acute care or long-term care setting preferred; valid CPR certification or obtain it after employment; must obtain Certified Dementia Practitioner certification within one (1) year of employment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Comprehensive knowledge of nursing procedures, theory and practice with an emphasis on current trends in gerontological nursing in a long term or acute care setting; ability to read and write effectively in English; ability to interact well with physicians and other health care professionals; ability to exercise sound professional judgment and respond appropriately in an emergency; ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds; ability to stand and walk for entire shift and safely lift and transfer residents

Employees may be required to work overtime when conditions that affect business needs make such scheduling necessary.
