General Summary of Position

Unit Highlights

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's Spine Surgery,Neuro Medical & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (C5-3) is a recently renovated,all private room, 14-bed adult Neuro Medical and Spine Surgery Unit. C5-3nurses work collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to providehigh-quality, patient-centered, specialty care. Two of C5-3's 14 beds arespecialized Epilepsy Monitoring beds, featuring state-of-the-art Natusmonitoring to care for patients with epilepsy or seizure-like activity. Thesepatients are on 24hr video EEG monitoring and may be candidates for Ictal-SPECTscans to determine the area of the brain that is generating their seizures. Thepatient population for the remaining beds is a mix of postoperative adultneurosurgical patients with brain and spine disorders, general medicinepatients, and neurological patients, including Multiple Sclerosis patients whomay require intravenous immunoglobulin treatment.MedStar Georgetown's neuroscience specialty centers andprograms include a National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence forParkinson's disease and other movement disorders for specialized evaluation andtreatments, including deep brain stimulation; the Epilepsy Center, featuring anadvanced monitoring unit for the accurate diagnosis of adults and children; theMultiple Sclerosis Center, the largest in the mid-Atlantic, with aninternational reputation as a referral center for special therapies; the NeuromuscularDiseases Clinic, offered in conjunction with the Muscular DystrophyAssociation; and a multidisciplinary Spine Center, offering advanced treatmentfor spinal cord tumors, spine cancer, neck disorders and degenerativeconditions, often through minimally invasive surgical techniques or CyberKnife.*Various scheduling options available, including PRN*

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.

Qualifications

  • ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Prior Clinical Nursing Experience preferred.
  • Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.

This position has a hiring range of $38.00 - $63.30
