Job Summary
Facilitates electrophysiology procedures through room preparation, patient preparation, patient monitoring. Assists physicians with procedures in scrubbing, monitoring and stimulating roles. Provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient/family centered care. Demonstrates clinical competency utilizing evidence based practices/research in all areas of the nursing process. Adheres to all compliance and policy/procedures of the organization. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO, DHEC, CMS). Provides care within the scope of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. The Electrophysiology setting may require some amount of late stay shifts and on-call work.This position is bonus eligible, follow this link for details.
Accountabilities
Accomplishes monitoring duties for implantable devices and all EP ablations to include complex. Understands mechanics of arrhythmias. Has in depth knowledge of mapping techniques for ablation and arrhythmias. Monitors patient's electrocardiogram and reports rhythm disturbances to physician. Monitors and record intracardiac and intravascular pressures.
Accomplishes scrub duties. Practices sterile techniques. Ensures tasks are accomplished effectively and accurately. Assists and anticipates needs of physicians.
Accomplishes circulating duties. Prepares procedure room using infection control guidelines. Ensures radiation protection techniques are followed. Performs accurate set-up of EP equipment. Ensures proper use of RF generator and stimulator. Accurately places electrodes, defibrillator, and appropriate ground pads on patient for monitoring. Checks prep for accuracy. Checks patient chart for correct permit. Performs quality equipment checks daily.
Assists with recovery duties. Obtains hemostasis as needed. Safely returns patients to room or nursing unit after procedure when necessary. Checks for pedal pulse and bleeding. Ensures that patient is comfortable. Ensures other team members are informed of patient status.
Orders and restocks supplies as needed. Retrieves supplies from Central Supply and Material Services as needed. Compares case load and on-hand supplies and obtains needed supplies. Ensures instruments are cleaned and prepared for Central Supply per department policy and infection control.
Using the nursing process to gather patient information., formulate a plan of care, implement the plan of care, and evaluate and/or revise the care plan. Incorporate patient family learning needs and teaches accordingly.
Ensures appropriate surveillance of assigned patients; identifies barriers related to specific care issues and seeks assistance as appropriate, thereby maintaining quality and patient safety.
Maintains professional licensure and takes personal accountability for maintaining competency through education and professional activities.
Successful completion of the PH arrhythmia Competency exam.
Minimum Requirements
Associate's Degree - Nursing
2 years of Cardiac Telemetry and 2 years of EP lab experience

SC Registered Nurse

BLS and ACLS
