New Wage Scale: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour Sign On Bonus for Full Time Employment $3000.00 (Pay out options available) Accountability Objective: Renders skilled, technical services to residents within an assigned unit / wing in support of medical care under the direction of the Administrator, Director of Nursing, and Assistant Director of Nursing. Ensures a high quality of care is provided to all resident on his/her unit and ensures resident safety. Supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel. Assesses the needs of residents and ensures services are consistent with needs. Qualifications: Holds a current license by the Kentucky State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN). Must have the ability to lead, motivate, and supervise subordinates. Requires ability to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change, as resident needs and work schedule will change on a daily basis. Must be able to work intimately with residents, physicians, families, and staff. Must be capable of working to nursing standards of practice. Must demonstrate desire to perform a service to others, and requires good interpersonal and communication skills. Position requires strong ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise services. Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for daily nursing operations of a specific unit Performs nursing techniques for the comfort, safety, and well-being of the residents. Must check each resident daily to determine status, ensure resident reaches highest attainable level of functioning Prepares equipment and assists physician during their rounds. Ensures subordinate staff assist with maintenance and sanitized cleaning of equipment as outlined in policy Administers prescribed medications orally, by injection, topical and intravenous (if IV certified). Provides treatment by using therapeutic equipment. Ensures proper handling and storage of medications and controlled substances Observes resident reaction to medication and treatment Observes, records, and reports changes in resident condition to supervisors, and the facility Administrator in required areas, and attending physician Maintains resident medical records through timely and accurate documentation, as required by policy Assists in planning, supervising, and instructing the State Registered Nursing Assistants (SRNA). Assigns and supervises daily work assignments to ensure positive outcomes for the residents Remains informed of facility policy and works to implement policies at all times Ensures facility Infection Control policies and techniques are utilized at all times Participates in and assists the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) team with the collection of requested information, and implements changes for improvement as assigned Coaches, counsels, and disciplines State Registered Nursing Assistants (SRNA) and Kentucky Certified Medication Aides (KMA) as needed. Ensures that personnel policies are followed (Employee Handbook and all other facility Policies) Recommends staffing, equipment, and needed supplies to the Director or Assistant Director of Nursing Participates in care planning process and ensures nursing component is implemented. Ensures completion of Baseline Care plan when resident is admitted to facility Ensures that the rights of residents are respected. Coordinates with other departments to ensure residents remain safe. Assists with resident needs in other departments, such as taking to activities, therapy, and meal time Provides education to residents and families regarding care. Ensures documentation of such education and any follow-up as required Maintains effective communication with residents, families, and all facility staff Monitors State Registered Nursing Assistants (SRNA) and Kentucky Medication Aides (KMA) breaks and meal times to ensure that the allotted time is not abused Assists supervisory staff with finding nursing staff coverage Fills out transfer sheets when a resident is being transported out of the facility Contacts attending physician to discuss resident condition as needed, and documents results of this consultation Ensures the practice of Universal Standard Precautions are observed to reduce / prevent exposure to bio-hazardous waste and blood borne pathogens Must be free of any physical restrictions: Must be able to lift or carry objects, walk or stand for most of the shift, push / pull carts, utilize frequent reaching and handling of instruments and equipment in caring for the needs of the residents Must be able to use sensory attention, such as hearing (to distinguish differences in heartbeat and respiration of residents), vision (for visual acuity to read gauges and dials on equipment and computer utilization), color vision (to differentiate changes in resident skin color and color of medications and solutions), as well as smell and touch for accurate resident assessment Must be free of any mental constraints. Must be able to professionally respond to conditions of combative behavior, frequent episodes of illness/death, and other changes in environment Willingness to perform all other duties as assigned by the Administrator, Director of Nursing, or Assistant Director of Nursing The RN has to change a PICC line dressing and RN has to hang the first IV medication to a PICC line
