Sapphire Nursing at Wappingers is actively seeking to hire a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to work as a Infection Control Specialist (ICS). The ICS will coordinate and work closely with an interdisciplinary team to develop and maintain a system of care that promotes sound and scientific infection prevention principles and practices at their Skilled Nursing Facility located in Wappingers Falls, NY. The Infection Control Specialist will ensure the efficient delivery of high quality nursing care for the residents. In addition, the ICS will serve as a nursing practice expert, teacher and resource person in assisting nursing staff to meet patient care needs. He/she will aid in developing team members knowledge and skills in the planning, implementation and the evaluation of patient care programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct our infection control program in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern such requirements in nursing care facilities.
  • Ensure that the facility is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection control or standard/universal precautions.
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update infection control precautions and aseptic technique that successfully correct problem areas.
  • Monitor infection control practices and procedures to ensure that all personnel are implementing our standard operating procedures for tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Serve on, participate in, and attend Infection Control Committee meetings.
  • Monitoring the health of patients to identify signs of infection and disease progression.
  • Educating patients about proper hygiene techniques and encouraging them to practice good health habits such as hand washing, dressing changes, etc.
  • Providing nursing care to patients who are hospitalized for treatment of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS or hepatitis.
  • Administering medications, performing medical procedures, and providing other patient care services as directed by a physician or other medical authority, such as an infectious disease specialist.
  • Prescribing medications to treat infections or diseases based on results of cultures and other diagnostic tests.
  • Diagnosing and managing infectious disease cases in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
  • On call every 3rd weekend

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License by the State of New York
  • Long Term Care Experience Preferred.
  • Must have good assessment skills and be self-motivated.
  • Prefer if CDC course on Long Term Care Preventionist has been completed.
  • Prefer training as an Infection Control Preventionist for Long Term Care.
