There may be some supervisory responsibilities and traveling to other campuses within the district. The RN does not work during the summer months and is on the same holiday breaks as teachers. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of Arkansas
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Maintains current CPR certification and First Aid Training.
REPORTS TO: Building PrincipalESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Applies appropriate theory as basis for decision making in nursing practice
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive school health program
  • Consults with school administration to establish, review, and revise policy and procedures
  • Emergency procedures
  • Ensure medication administration protocols
  • Implement safety measures and programs
  • Oversee student/personnel health services
  • Assist with health education
  • Supervises designated school personnel in the proper administering of first aid and medications
  • Assists with in-service programs for school personnel for first aid, emergency care, and current health issues
  • Adheres to the district's policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance
  • Regularly checks and maintains district AEDs
  • Establishes processes to identify students at risk for physical and psychosocial problems and communicates needs to other school personnel
  • Uses the data management system to plan and evaluate the comprehensive school health program to monitor the health of the school population
  • Collaborates with school administration and counselors in assessing and improving the social and emotional climate of schools and classrooms
  • Conducts screening programs for students at designated grade levels: vision, hearing, scoliosis, pediculosis, growth and development
  • Assesses health care needs of students and families
  • Implements appropriate nursing measures to meet identified health needs of students
  • Administers first aid in accordance with American Red Cross and National Association of School Nurses guidelines.
  • Serves as a resource person for faculty, parents, students and community in health education.
  • Presents to students in the classroom, if requested, health information which is age specific to the health and safety needs of a particular age group or specific individual group of students, to include tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and puberty education
  • Participates in in-service training programs and other programs designed to promote professional growth
  • Serves as an agent in the control and prevention of communicable disease
  • Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in connection with communicable diseases and conditions
  • Dispenses medication according to physicians orders and school policy
  • Appraises and identifies student health problems and encourages their correction by working with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Develops Individual Health Care Plans for students with health concerns
  • Provides health counseling to students, parents and school personnel
  • Maintains current immunization records on all students
  • Interprets medical reports and contacts physicians for clarification of the students' medical needs while at school
  • Acts as liaison between physician and community agencies for illnesses and social problems that affect attendance at school
  • Interprets school health policies to parents and others in the community
  • Oversee the district's wellness program
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Regularly monitor district email for pertinent communication and timely responses.
  • Submit all data and information as requested.
  • Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and district administrators.
  • Complete requested paperwork.
  • Be proficient with and have the ability to adapt to basic workplace technology
  • Prioritize safety by, among other things, ensuring that all doors and windows are appropriately locked.
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of the district's crisis management plan.
  • Model a high standard of professional excellence in the school, community, and on social media.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and a vision of growth and support for the district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Frequent travel to school district offices and classrooms
  • Frequent walking throughout various buildings
  • Moderate lifting and carrying from 15 to 30 pounds
  • Often sitting at desk for extended periods
  • Standing for limited periods of time
  • Manual dexterity to use office equipment
  • Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding
  • Maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress.
  • Must be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making
  • Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner. Observe all safety precautions.
  • Assist students and staff with a vareity of medical needs
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.
