A PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed healthcare professional who provides specialized nursing care to patients who have recently undergone surgical procedures. This role typically involves the following duties and responsibilities:Monitoring patients: The PACU RN continually monitors patients' vital signs, level of consciousness, and other physical and psychological responses to ensure they are stable and free from any adverse reactions.Administering medications: The PACU RN may be responsible for administering medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician, monitoring patients' responses and adjusting treatments as necessary.Assisting with pain management: The PACU RN provides patients with pain management techniques and medications to ensure they remain as comfortable as possible during the post-operative period.Communicating with surgeons and anesthesiologists: The PACU RN works closely with surgeons and anesthesiologists to communicate any changes in patients' conditions, and to ensure that patients receive appropriate care following surgical procedures.Documenting patient care: The PACU RN is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of patients' post-operative conditions, treatments, and responses, and communicating this information to other healthcare professionals as needed.Educating patients and families: The PACU RN provides patients and their families with information on their post-operative conditions, treatments, and what to expect during recovery.Providing emotional support: The PACU RN provides emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families, helping to alleviate any concerns or anxieties they may have.Requirements for this role typically include a current RN license, a bachelor's degree in nursing, and previous experience in a similar setting. Strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and organizational skills are also essential. Additionally, PACU RNs should have a good understanding of anesthesia, surgery, and post-operative care.This is a not full time but contracted travel position.
