After a few years of operation, Shrub Oak will have close to 600 staff and 390 students.Reporting to the Director of Health and Wellness, the Registered Nurse is a year-round position, serving as an integral part of Shrub Oak's comprehensive health and wellness program. He/she employs an evidence-based, student-centric approach to providing high-quality, proactive direct and indirect nursing, medical and overall proactive wellness care to our students. The Registered Nurse provides front line support for the daily operations of the health and wellness program both on and off campus, guiding and mentoring students, assisting with emergency response procedures, and collaborating with all members of the Shrub Oak staff. The Registered Nurse builds trusting relationships with students, families, the community and other medical service providers, while representing Shrub Oak International School in a respectful, competent manner.Essential FunctionsWorks with the Director of Health and Wellness to create a proactive, comprehensive (and non-duplicative) health plan of care for reach student. This includes but is not limited to collaboratively working with current health care providers, families, and prior health care providers to obtain previous medical records.Employs a student-centric approach, ensuring that high quality, respectful care is consistently provided to all students; proactively monitors and evaluates patient/client care processes and outcomes utilizing continuous process improvement to the unique needs of each studentPerforms nursing assessments, triages and prioritizes student health concerns; manages the situation, seeking out appropriate assistance as required in accordance with Shrub Oak protocols and standard nursing procedures; communicates information to the Director of Health & Wellness on case assessments and student careConducts medication administration, ensuring that the Six Rights of Medication Administration are followed at all times; works with the prescribing provider and the pharmacy to ensure medication(s) are available for appropriate administrationProvides first aid and emergency care to staff and students, as necessary, within the Scope of Practice of a registered nurse; collaborates closely with the Director of Health and Wellness, Clinical, and Security teams (and external medical teams) as needed to triage appropriate care as requiredDevelops relationships with students to proactively meet their health and wellness needs; assists to de-escalate students experiencing psychological crises in a safe and nonjudgmental manner, escalating to the Director of Health & Wellness, Clinical staff and other Shrub Oak personnel per Shrub Oak proceduresPerforms annual student health screening tests (e.g. hearing, vision) of students; performs other tests i.e. EKGs on students as necessary for clinical symptoms and medication monitoring. Obtains laboratory specimens as ordered, arranging for timely transportation to the lab for accurate testingAssesses students' immunization records for completeness, using ACIP guidelines as the gold standard.Serves as an educator and mentor to guide staff and students in health and wellness mattersIn conjunction with the Director of Health & Wellness and other Student Life staff, conducts health and wellness programs and seminars to proactively enhance knowledge and the overall wellbeing of the studentsCreates collaborative relationships with students' parents and guardians, providing on going communication regarding the health status of their child as needed and requiredMaintains the highest standards of confidentiality, whether communicating verbally, electronically, or in writing, and in accordance with legal requirementsEnsures, as an integral member of the health care team, that each student's record is complete and up to dateTimely completes all necessary medical documents and forms; documents nursing assessment and interventions clearly, concisely, and accurately in medical recordsSchedules and manages all needed appointments, including internal and outside medical, and outsourced dental, appointments.
