Shift and unit may vary based on need of the facility.The applicant selected to fill this position shall be required to submit to a pre-employment medical examination. This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management. The employee in this position spends a minimum of 75% of his/her time performing duties as outlined on official position description, which involves contact with residents in a forensic facility or institution.This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management. Nursing will provide guidance in the care and treatment of residents. This is a high-level position within the nursing field and possesses a high degree of nursing knowledge and ability with responsibility for nursing care within the unit and serves as a nursing resource to the treatment team. Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:a. Administer medications, bloodwork, IVs and related procedures.b. Administers or provides adequate supervision for the administering of medication. Provides education on medications and treatments to individuals.c. Monitor or supervise non-licensed personnel in monitoring blood pressures, temperatures, pulses and respiration.d. Administer or supervise the administering of treatment orders for salves, bandages, enemas, urinalysis, preparation for x-rays and related procedures.e. Provide appropriate progress reports on residents.f. Assist the medical physician during sick calls, during physical examinations, as needed.g. Provide emergency nursing care and examination of injuries.h. Responsive and compliant with current resident's rights and advocacy issues; adheres to and complies with unit, hospital, and departmental policies and guidelines.i. Accepts written, oral and phone orders from physicians, psychiatrists, or dentists, transcribes orders and initiates or carries out orders. Participates in the formulation of individualized residents' treatment plans.j. Admits and transfers residents to and from home unit or other hospital facilities; assures that appropriate documentation accompanies residents.k. If applicable, checks medication, orders, and labels for correctness on return from pharmacy.l. Performs nursing procedures as indicated.m. Participates in the hospital infection control program according to unit services and hospital infection policies.Participates in resident evaluations and in development of each resident's treatment and discharge plan with the treatment team. Preparation of nursing care assessments for designated residents.Serves as a resource person to train staff.Performs other related duties as required.Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the positions Knowledge of the principles and practices of health care or the behavioral sciences. Ability to assist in carrying out treatment and rehabilitation activities centered around personal and social adjustments. Ability to assist in group therapy sessions. Ability to observe changes in person served's behavior patterns. Ability to assist persons served with personal care activities. Ability to assimilate data and recommend changes in policies, procedures and techniques. Ability to document effectively. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Physical agility requirements: Must be able to ambulate up and down a stairwell. Must be able to assist with evacuation of persons served during an emergency situation. Must have normal vision and hearing, including use of corrective devices. Must be able to work with or around cleaning chemicals and supplies. Must be able to do repetitive movements with arms, hands, neck and head. Must be able to demonstrate competency, as appropriate, in all areas of training, some of which requires physical activity such as CPR and MANDT. Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, stoop, squat, push, pull, lift and walk extended distances. Must be able to physically operate all equipment necessary to do job tasks. Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds. Must be able to sit and/or stand for one hour without a break. Must be able to work 16 hour shifts on occasion. Must be able to remain alert while on duty.Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27 and two years of professional nursing experience, including one year of professional experience in a specialty field as determined by the employing agency. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing or a related field can substitute for one year of the required general professional nursing experience. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, nursing education, public health, or a related field can substitute for two years of the required general professional nursing experience.All employees of state mental health treatment facilities are required to wear face masks and appropriate protective equipment as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
