Responsibilities:
- Responsible for activities of the operating room outside the sterile field and for managing nursing care of the surgical patient in the room.
- Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
- Reviews patient's medical record and assures the completeness of the patient chart.
- Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
- Provides basic, bedside care.
- Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications.
- Initiates, maintains and discontinues IV's.
- Conducts ongoing assessments and reprioritizes care accordingly.
- Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communicates appropriate information to all team members concerning patient care throughout the perioperative stay.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to crisis situations, during the perioperative phase, seeking assistance as needed.
- Documents patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress toward problem resolution.
- Assesses pain upon admission and throughout stay and utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.
- Monitors sterile and aseptic techniques in all areas of the perioperative process.
- Provides necessary material, supplies, and equipment in good working order for the completion of quality patient care throughout the perioperative care.
- Participates in department inventory and routine cleaning of the department.
Qualifications:
- Active Kentucky Registered Nurse Licensure
- BLS and ACLS Certification
- Surgical experience Required
PRN (As Needed). Weekdays 6:00 am - 2:00 pm. Hours vary according to caseload.
