This employee will be responsible for the scheduling and verifications of required pre-authorizations for Radiology, Cardiology, Chemotherapy, and other outpatient services. This employee will have to work closely with the Ancillary departments, Admitting, Business Office and Physician Offices.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide excellent customer service by promptly acknowledging each patient upon his or her arrival in the department. We quickly and efficiently address the patient's needs in a friendly, caring manner. Know and relay any information to the patient. e.g., wait time, special instructions etc.
* Attending the scheduling desk while answering facility switchboard and transferring phone calls to the appropriate location.
* Schedule in Meditech for all radiology modalities, follows the protocols for such scheduling, obtains proper paperwork, consent/required signatures in accordance with quality standards and maintaining accuracy.
* Obtain orders and pre-authorizations from physician offices.
* Communicate closely with interdepartmental staff coordinating the schedules and obtaining proper paperwork, orders and previous diagnostic testing when needed.
* Enter in all radiology orders for each modality and make sure all screening forms are properly filled out and scanned into CPSI/Meditech. Alert the proper radiology staff member that their patient has arrived and is ready for their test.
* Complete CT protocol forms for all CT patients, fax to Anderson prior to exam. Follow up to ensure we have received each protocol before the appointment date and give a copy to the CT tech.
* Ensure patients that require lab work do so promptly, not disrupting the schedule.
* Review radiology reports and disperse them to the proper department and/or clinic.
* Print the next day schedule, attach orders, and turn in to admitting. Provide a copy of the CT schedule along with completed protocol forms to the CT tech.
* Process all requests for radiology medical records. Obtain proper documentation and signatures upon receipt of the requested records.
* Transfer imaging to other facilities in our system when requested.
* Provide coverage for the specialty clinic. e.g., breaks, lunches, days off etc.
* Act as a receptionist in the Specialty Clinic when necessary.
* Maintain certain protocols for Specialty Clinic doctors. Communicate closely with their staff to best serve our patients respectfully and professionally.
* Register patients in the specialty clinic when required.
* Coordinate and participate in the maintenance of various files, logs and records ensuring the accuracy and completeness of information.
* Show good positive communication skills with patients, families, medical staff, and co-workers.
* Show initiative. Tasks are complete before the end of shift and aid in the preparation for the next day. Uses time wisely, does not allow for unimportant interruptions. Able to multi-task, prioritize work, and complete it in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates knowledge of the department and management line of authority and follows proper lines of communication. Shows good problem-solving skills yet seeks guidance and direction from the scheduling supervisor when necessary.
* Adhere to all hospital and scheduling department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, while meeting the requirements of the Code of Conduct and hospital compliance program.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior customer service experience is required. Medical terminology course or background preferred. Previous medical office experience is preferred.
Must have data entry, computer, organizational and accurate typing skills. Must be able to work with interruptions and pay attention to detail. Excellent communication skills are necessary. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general clerical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and communicate with co-workers, patients, and the public. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgement and give or take constructive criticism well.
