Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Recreation Center Division of the Community Services Department, in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority. Assists in daily operations of the Family Recreation Center front desk control center, pool, and youth programs.

* Must be at least 18 years of age;

* High School diploma or GED;

* Prior recreation program, front desk management or cashiering experience and/or experience working with children;

* Valid CPR and First Aid certificates or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire;

* Valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain within 60 days, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo (valid out-of-state license may be considered);

* Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Desired:

* College level courses in parks & recreation services, facility operations or business

* Perform all duties at the direction of the Recreation Facility Manager or his/her designee.

* Assist in overseeing operations including front desk management, program/service provision and facilities usage by patrons;

* Promptly and effectively interacts with patrons in person, by phone, and /or electronically, to all inquiries regarding the facilities, programs, services, and amenities provided or overseen by the Family Recreation Center as part of the Community Services Department;

* Perform front desk administrative duties such as facilitating and processing patron registrations, passes, permits, rentals, refunds/credits, and sponsorship applications.

* Manage patron check-in/out procedures for example, preparing pass cards, supervising sign-in forms, collecting fees and issuing equipment;

* Operate a multi-line phone including answering, redirecting, and taking messages as needed. Collect and organize any associated paperwork;

* Maintain and balance a daily cash drawer;

* Assist in facility maintenance including monitoring all Recreation Center areas, enforcing all facility rules and policies, inspect all areas and promptly report any issues to the appropriate higher-level staff. Aid in maintaining facility cleanliness and performing general custodial duties;

* Provide operational support, as assigned, for events, programs, and services such as equipment set up/take down, patron transportation, sports/game score keeping, temporary youth participant supervision, decorating, and organizing supplies;

* Maintain up-to-date information and postings on facility marquee sign and bulletin boards;

* May fill in/substitute for co-workers, if assigned during temporary absences, by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain normal operations;

* Provide first aid or CPR, when certified, as needed;

* Contribute to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety related training and skills;

* Interact professionally and provide excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens, to ensure high operational and service standards;

* Perform duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority;

OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES

* Maintain the confidentiality of information obtained during performance of duty;

* Generally works irregular hours including shift work, nights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and overtime hours; and

* Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

* Possess effective, positive customer service abilities;

* Basic math and cashier skills;

* Knowledge of safe and effective methods of interacting with children;

* CPR and first aid techniques; and

* Standard office skills including but not limited to operating a multi-line phone, computer aptitude, scheduling and record keeping.

Skill/Ability to:

* Understand and follow written and oral instructions;

* Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication;

* Remain focused on assigned duties and the well-being of Recreation Center customers by avoiding distractions such as a non-work-related cell phone use or non-work-related conversation;

* Multi-task and effectively work in a frequently fast-paced environment.

* Ensure that sensitive and/or demographic information regarding program participants remains confidential;

* Accept money, make change accurately, and reconcile a cash drawer;

* Accurately process materials and enter data into computer;

* Operate standard office equipment, including computer using standard word processing, data inquiry, and recreation software;

* Type accurately at a speed that allows work to be completed in a timely manner;

* Drive a City Vehicle;

* Obtain and maintain necessary certifications/licenses required for this position;

* Work well with others and participate fully in a team-oriented environment;

* Interface with other employees and customers in a courteous and respectful manner;

* Project positive support of their department and all City organizations always; and

* Maintain and enhance the Recreation Center's commitment to customer service excellence.

* Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors;

* Varied outdoor weather conditions may include heat, rain, wind, odors, dust and pollen;

* Must be able to sit and stand (possibly for prolonged periods), walk, bend, turn, twist, kneel, squat, and reach; lift and carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds;

* Ability to see well enough to read computer monitors and documents;

* Ability to hear well enough to receive information in person and over the telephone;

* Ability to speak well enough to be understood when transmitting information in person and over the telephone;

* Hand and finger dexterity sufficient to grasp documents and operate office and other required equipment;

* The noise level in the work area may be moderately noisy;

* Required to wear activity-appropriate attire which may include personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for some job assignments;

* Ability to work odd and irregular hours including shift work, nights, weekends, holidays, special events, split shifts, and overtime hours;

* Attentiveness and concentration necessary to perform multiple tasks concurrently;

* Ability to comprehend and follow instructions; and

* Duties may be performed outside of normal working hours.
